Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

School seems generally sensible. They sent out internet advice for parents - yup, Stonewalled.

Dc's school sent parents links to www.internetmatters.org an internet safety advice website.

Not only is it deeply mired in genderism, but it also fearmongers by presenting coming out as inherently dangerous. This emphasis verges on homophobic IMO. I know that people in RL and OL can be nasty, but it's not healthy to tell young people that they are in danger in this way, nor to tell them that their pre-coming-out online presence will distress them if it reappears.

Any suggestions for other internet use advice websites which recognise that young people may be exploring issues of sexuality and identity, but do not genderwash. I do not think that the school have selected this website, but that the link was sent to them by some other provider and it has simply been forwarded to us.

Is this about internet safety or specifically alphabettyspaghetti? If the former where are the other sources of advice to deal with, oh I don’t know.... mental health for example?

Yikes, they are signposting to mermaids

I'd suggest sending them a letter straight back that some of those links are being investigated for safeguarding issues so they may want to alert parents to their oversight.

General internet safety. A quick browse reveals mostly common sense. Until you reach the alphabettyspaghetti pages.

If they are generally a good school I'm sure they will correct their error
