Interesting listen. Comment that it's much more common in teen girls.

I did and do suffer with this but never sought help and self manage. it was linked to childhood teasing but intensified when a teen to mid 20s. I don't think I've been as bad as some though.

Not sure if links words, sorry

Moves on to describe impact of lockdowns and death of her father, and develops bulimia to gain some type of control.

Moves on to talk about how plastic surgery doesn't help, the move into other aspects of their body. Impact of Instagram, social media.

So many common themes.

I just came on here to post this too. A really interesting listen and so many pertinent points. Especially enlightening was Tilly discussing her internal dialogue and the layers of fear in accepting the therapists diagnosis of body dysmorphia disorder.

The difference a thoughtful therapist can make.

I came on her to post about it too!

All the way through I was continually being struck by the contrast with affirmation of gender identity. It even goes into a discussion of undiagnosed BDD possibly being behind much of the cosmetic surgery that is carried out in the UK. It turns out that the way for Tilly not to have a hopeless and suicidal life is to re-wire her brain through intensive and long-term therapy.

Loads to say but it's actually really affected me

I came across a different way some one explored working with this in the 90s, with an artist, when I was doing Alevels, so knew from early on it was a self perception issue. Which helped until later at university

Me too! The difference between the treatment of body dysmorphia and gender dysphoria - which is a version of body dysmorphia - was glaring.
