BBC acknowledges that 'gender neutral' could 'could actually result in less equality'

^As a result, women could have a higher hill to climb to score a win.
In the long-term, it's not hard to imagine the outrage if a decision like this led to a repeated loss of recognition for worthy winners, particularly women.^

I wonder if Corin is also expecting mens roles
Will be interesting to see what happens if a female NB got "best actor" as they had a man's role

Maybe the next James Bond could be a NB female

How you want to be seen

Most criminals want to be seen as innocent. And I I guess it's very triggering for them when the judge doesn't see it that way

The pesky thing about RL is that we just can’t control how other people see us, however desperately we might want to.

nilsmousehammer · 25/11/2022 10:59

Your gender identity is so much to do with how you feel and it ties into so much of how you want to be seen or are seen by people and that can be very triggering or can make you uncomfortable if you don't feel you are being seen honestly or correctly.

Only if you're a very special TQ+ person, Emma. If you're a mere biological female no one gives a fuck about how you feel, or want to be seen, or are seen by people, or how triggering and uncomfortable all this makes you, or whether you are being seen honestly and correctly.

When this is demanded of females, to provide without any reciprocation or equality to let's face it exclusively TQ+ male people (because the female TQ+ ones aren't involved here) this is sexism and coercive and many characteristics of an abusive relationship .

BetterCallMe · 25/11/2022 11:10

EC: I'm non-binary and I want to be seen, anything else is triggering.

Rest of the sane world: boo fucking hoo.

Get in line with your triggering, I want to be accepted in a way that's aligned with how I feel!

I want to be accepted as a worthwhile human being, valued for my contributions to society, not judged by the colour of my skin, by the size of my boobs, by the way I speak and sound. Guess what, my desires are rarely, if ever granted. Get in line behind the rest of womanhood, before you continue bleating on about how being non- binary makes your desires extra special.

Fuming over. For now.

Meanwhile Eddie Izzard appears to have landed the role of Sherlock's daughter.
Who knows whether this will be in girl mode or boy mode or even adult mode 🤷‍♀️

Corrin, pictured at the Olivier Awards earlier this year, says "being non-binary is not a rejection of femininity"

Eh?? What is it then?

Quite.

A single gender neutral category to replace 2 sex based categories might be inclusive of those who reject being male and female. Its still exclusive of 50% of those who used to qualify.

With women more likely to be excluded than men. Because sexism. Plus the interesting reason in the article, linking a male lead to best picture (sexism again?).

What's non binary about a metal, badly fitted, bra with trumpet nipples?

I think it's supposed to be a beige balloon

TheMarzipanDildo · 25/11/2022 13:53

I was recently at a dinner party where 50% of the guests (all female) were NB. I wanted to know what they thought made them different to me (I didn’t actually ask, because I don’t have a social death wish)

Do they think I’ve got a special lady brain?

WinterTrees · 25/11/2022 14:02

'My name is Bond, James Bond. My pronouns are they/them.'

I've recently seen a casting call for a production somewhere obscure in London where the requirements, for the entire cast, were for "non binary female presenting" and "non binary male presenting" actors.

😂😂
So men and women, basically!

BellaAmorosa · 25/11/2022 14:13

I could have died of boredom and cringe, reading Corrin's words. You're female, nobody has to make special categories for you.
Good on Adele for saying she missed being called a female artist.

The entertainment business is very different for men and women. Many more girls than boys apply to drama school or become actors by other routes, there are many more parts for males than for females and most lead parts are for men. The quality of all parts for males and the amount they say is greater than for females. So men get more opportunities, better opportunities to shine and less competition to land parts. Plus society values men higher than women. Of course gender neutral awards will be unfair.

howmanybicycles · 25/11/2022 14:13

Does they not understand the history of some female categories? Does they not understand that when categories were open in some areas, everything went to the men? Does they not care or is they so arrogant that they does not need to listen to anyone or anything else to know exactly how the world should be run? They comes across as not very bright.

😂😂
So men and women, basically!

Each character was named and described briefly, then denoted as above.

Normally characters are named, then described as female / male with an age range.

I'd love to know the criteria for "male / female presenting" if the actor is in fact female / male.

Would convince anyone at any distance? Might pass if the lighting director goes for "murky" and they don't have to say too much?

The fantastic arrogance of this political movement.

They're busy re discovering and then re inventing every single wheel from scratch, in the fond belief of superior knowledge and that old people and old history has nothing to tell them.

No, it's the role of Sherlock. Who, if you read the piece is the biological father of Sherlock's daughter (no shit ...Grin) with standard male pronouns.

Ain't gender fluidity a wonderful thing!

Hopefully at some point they'll have rubbed all the awkward corners off their current models and arrive at one which actually works within the laws koi science. (Hint kids - try 'two sexes, no gender stereotypes/roles')

JellySaurus · 25/11/2022 15:46

Really rate Emma Corrin as an actor, but from interviews and their social media I find them as a person beyond irritating.

OMG. I'm seeing you as Bridget Jones at the smug married dinner party only it's a smug special identity dinner party. And probably no chance of a romantic interest telling you they like you just the way you are. GinWineGin

Maybe they believe that we have achieved equality and women are no longer disadvantaged compared to men?

I thought this until my 20s. I didn't notice the stealth sexism. It wasn't until something obvious was directed at me that the penny dropped.

Gender neutral in my experience always favours the men/boys. They scrapped head boy and head girl at my DC's school in favour of head pupil and wouldn't you know, since then it has always been a male head pupil. DD was elected deputy head pupil. In previous years she would have been head girl. She was gutted, so was I. I did eventually write to the head, but I was worried it might come over as sour grapes. A pisser to see talented ambitious young girls passed over and the younger ones missing out on a role model. Sends them a crap message.
