Employment of men/ protecting vulnerable staff

I wonder if more knowledgeable people could help.
I have set up a small company with a talented marketeer. Unfortunately she was subject to a violent relationship which has made her scared of men.
I know that she finds it difficult to be around men however we are getting far more male applicants for vacancies than women. I want to be fair to everyone but I have a number of staff who really don't like working with men. We are a female aligned business. Any advice welcome.

@EmbarrassedNameChangeDontJudge
90% of our products are sold to women.
Historically female targeted goods, now much wider usage.

You worried me there as I am not a marketeer. I looked it up myself. Apparently non binary but appears more aligned to females than males.

Ignore non binary or males who say they are women or females who say they are men.

Is your client base actually female? Then you would have a good case for 100% female staff ratio.

@AlisonDonut The product is personal care. Mostly used by females.

'Legspreaders?' Can you explain please?

BellaAmorosa · 23/11/2022 12:14

@GrrrrAReform
"leg spreaders" are men who sit with their knees very wide apart, thus - in a row of seats - invading the space of the person next to them.
See also "man leg".

I don’t think anyone could argue with you sifting potential employees (male and female) on the basis that they shared your company’s core values.

It’s not unreasonable, or controversial, to want your workforce to show respect for the work product of others, avoid talking over their colleagues and to understand the needs of your core market.

These are values that would appear in the HR manuals of virtually every UK company - the difference might be whether those other companies actually enforce their written commitments.

FancyFran · 23/11/2022 14:36

@BellaAmorosa exactly that. Thank you.
@PaterPower ditto your thoughts.
I think the chat we had yesterday solved the issues.
I am at fault because I didn't see it as an issue. After a particular applicant became pushy (and yes talked over my colleague) she expressed her fears. As a previous pp said there is an element of PTSD.
