Hmmm, isn't it interesting that hat in these examples from nature it's about males hustling for a shag

It's almost as if you can find an example of nature to say whatever point you are trying to make

See that's awe inspiringly cool but my first response when I read your title was

"We're not fish"

Shelefttheweb · 05/11/2022 12:05

That seems pretty close to what is likely to be the motivation behind many teenage girls transitioning.

Soubriquet · 05/11/2022 12:08

Oh? I didn’t realise we had gills and could breathe under water! Fantastic

CentaureaCyanus · 05/11/2022 12:10

Males' pursuit of sexual gratification and females' avoidance of being pursued by sexually aggressive males? Sounds v. familiar.

Rainbowshit · 05/11/2022 12:31

I ask "how do we know they've changed sex? Is it the lipstick and high heels? Or is it moving from small to large gametes or vice versa? How many humans have done that?"

Needmoresleep · 05/11/2022 13:16

The very classic whataboutery are clown fish. (No idea why. I am not hot on fish biology) The standard answer has to be "so what".

I love it when TRA bring out the clownfish. It’s like their last Ditch attempt at an argument. My reply is, if you believe humans are the same as clownfish, go and see how long you can breathe underwater….

Perfect reply. Blows the whole "but fish" argument away... because they don;t change gender at all, do they? They change sex, which unlike gender can be observed. Clownfish are in fact proof that sex is real.

Babdoc · 05/11/2022 16:34

Look at Francis Aaron’s hilarious rap “Clownfish” on Youtube. Brilliantly debunks this TRA nonsense.

tilder · 05/11/2022 21:44

From memory the clownfish was raised by a BBC presenter/Professor in science communication. Or similar job title.

Fish are awesome. They've been around a lot longer than humans and some species have evolved in incredible ways. Other species have evolved the ability to regrow body parts. While others can 'see' magnetic fields.

Unfortunately humans cannot do these things. We didn't evolve along the same lines. I find it bizarre that somebody could hold up a fish doing something as justification for a human activity. Seriously. I am not a fish.

I doubt many women have had their privacy in the female bathrooms intruded upon by a fish.

Maybe I should identify as a squid 🦑🤔

I just watched this video and thought I was seeing it for the first time. It makes me realise how far the Overton window must have shifted.
I totally saw it a year ago I now realise, but because the climate is so different now, I didn’t have the horrible feeling of anxiety around it, it felt informative rather than subversive. 🤔

I remember learning about sneak copulation in evolutionary psychology. Sometimes the male behaves like a female to get close to give them a chance at reproducing. If I remember rightly, tends to happen when it is the main mating strategy is polygyny (harems - one male to many females). Lots of examples of different sneak copulation in various animals (i remember salmon being mentioned ), but one strategy is to behave like a female and then when the alpha male is not paying attention, they copulate with a female.

I usually just say ‘birds can fly. Does that mean we can?’

No-one thinks it's a TRA post. Did you not understand the point of this thread?

ShouldntHaveBeenSoHasty · 06/11/2022 17:42

Some fish change sex. Birds can fly. Whales can hold their breath under water. Caterpillars can build a cocoon have their body break down and reform as a butterfly. Lots of animals are capable of biological functions that humans are not.
