Living proof of the dangers of hiding science behind ideology

Apologies if this has already been done. But watching Jessica Yaniv insisting to Blaire White that 'she' has periods and seeing Dylan Mulvaney waving tampons around made me wonder if young people are genuinely confused about the medical realities of their bodies. So I typed the phrase 'Can trans women have' into Google and here's what came up.

Obviously some people are going to be confused but honestly, I'm astonished the obfuscation has reached a point where people are genuinely needing to ask whether someone born a man can have periods.

I then visited a site that came up via the search "Do trans women have a cervix?". The website for the charity Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust came up. On clicking through, I found a page of information produced 'In partnership with the LGBT foundation' that starts with these words:

Self-care note: This page talks about cervical screening and genitals. If you find this distressing or triggering, remember to take it at your own pace – you may prefer to read small sections, wait until you feel ready to read it all, or choose not to read it at all. At the bottom of the page there is a section on getting support that may be helpful.

How about 'THIS PAGE CONTAINS IMPORTANT INFORMATION THAT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE'
?????

It's bonkers I agree.

WarriorN · 04/11/2022 11:10

Downright dangerous

Righthandcider · 04/11/2022 11:27

I mean the whole website is about cancer. But apparently content about a potentially deadly disease is less upsetting and 'triggering' than the mere mention of body parts that people were born with.

I've come to the conclusion that this whole muddying the waters re: health/breast cancer/cervical cancer etc is one just a large set of Darwin awards largely fuelled by social media but also confusingly by health services.

The less educated who are bamboozled by this sort of thing/buy into it die younger because they aren't able to disseminate claptrap from scientific fact.

I also don't think it's any accident that the majority of this gender nonsense comes from the US where the standard of education is generally very, very poor. So people there genuinely ask questions like can trans women have kids? because they haven't received a good enough level of education (or guidance) to realise no, of course they can't because they are biologically men.

If it weren't so tragic it would be laughable.

Well, technically they can have kids, just in the way as any other male can, via fathering a the child (depending on various health factors and either before any genital surgery or after with cryopreserved sperm, obvs )

The one massive effect is that no one can any longer have faith in their health care provider/medical advice provider/patients assistant providers eycf they can mislead about stuff that's so obvious then what else will they mislead you about. And of they are so stupid as to not see that they are simply being used as props to enable the constant victim hood essential for ideology to be prioritised over reality then you actually do not want them.near you or your family.

Particularly when a charity whose purpose is to provide information to help save lives through information about cervical cancer allows an an outside organisation to add a paragraph to an advice page suggesting that "If [you find] this information upsetting or triggering, you may choose not to read it."

Because naturally for some it's better to risk dying than to read some facts.

Because reading survival rates of a cancer you have been dx with is hunky dory 🙄

We used to help people psychologically if they didn't have a healthy grasp on reality. We never used to pretend reality didbt exist to protect them.

TastefulRainbowUnicorn · 04/11/2022 15:28

Have you tried actually Googling those questions?

What's much scarier than the fact that people are asking this stuff, is the kind of answers they're getting.

I just tried "can transwomen get pregnant." The first link was a straightforward "no", the second link wanged on about uterus transplant science fiction, and most of the rest of the page had answers about trans men but for some reason (which I better not speculate about) many of the articles had ambiguous/misleading text referring to "pregnancy in transgender individuals" and the like.

I do not think anyone confused enough to ask the question would obtain much clarity from the answers.

"Can trans women get periods" is even worse (it's a widely believed myth/fetish among the "trans community" that transwomen get periods, only without the bleeding 🙄, and the answers reflect that)

Ah yes, a period without the bleeding. Of course! Thank god men are here to tell us these amazing things exist, because we just didn't realise!

I'm just waiting for a sanpro company to create a special trans range.

Righthandcider I think you’re on to something. Period producx for the transladies - there might be a market for that. And you don’t need to worry too much about whether it leaks 😀 Maybe pads which turn red when exposed to body heat?

That was back in the days before pretending reality doesn't exist became compulsory for any organisation, political party or celebrity not wanting to be sued, screwed or issued with rape and death threats.

Yes!! This is going to be great. Let's do it. We can use the profits to pay sex-based rights lobbyists.

I suspect that a great many people are still unaware that the term 'transwoman' refers to a male person. They, quite reasonably, understand that the adjective describes the noun, so assume that 'trans' is describing 'woman'. But of course the language of trans ideology is designed to obfuscate, confuse and force-team.

Whatwouldscullydo · 04/11/2022 16:54

They should do that actually. As a thank you. Cos we all know that the only reason they get to sell out and be " inclusive " in their language is because someone else has done the dirty work of explaining reality so that anyone reading has a hope of understanding anything

PaterPower · 04/11/2022 20:15

^^ I suspect that anything sold in a packet wouldn’t give half the thrill, to the more discerning man-about-town, of fishing around in sanitary bins for “pre-loved” products.

BatCheeseIsFine · 04/11/2022 22:59

Yes there's confusion of all kinds generated by the nonsense spread by gender ideology. One issue is that people are told that men can get pregnant and women can have penises etc. But then a lot of people think that means "man" and "woman" in their original meaning, i.e science has now found a way for an actual man to get pregnant, or for an actual man to become a woman who can get pregnant, or for a woman to gain a real functioning penis as part of becoming a man, etc.

I mean after all you actually can really have a functioning heart transplant or a robot hand – science and medicine can do some amazing things. So it's no wonder people do think maybe being trans really does totally transform you into the opposite sex, and of course then TWAW makes sense.

Boomboom22 · 04/11/2022 23:03

Yes this exactly, people think science can do this but it can't.

Righthandcider · 05/11/2022 08:46

Wow, yes @BatCheeseIsFine. I thought the whole thing depended on the willing suspension of disbelief en masse. But you're right, of course. If a whole generation is brought up with "no debate" there'll be no disbelief to suspend.
