Oldest DC has started at a catholic secondary and this is what they use. The website doesn’t give much away. Anyone know how they handle transgender issues?

Some information on this blog. However could be biased.

Yes I have looked at it. From memory it is ‘some people believe in gender identity but there are fundamental differences between the sexes are immutable’.

I was very comfortable with what was being taught.

My child’s school sent links to all of the lessons but I think it was log in to access.

Would think Catholic schools are GC.

I very much doubt it. They might believe sex is binary and immutable and they might be critical of genderist ideology, but I can't see them being gender critical.

I have read the article upthread. It is my understanding that secondary schools have to teach abortion in a factual and non-judgemental way, and, as the article points out, this is not in line with the Catholic Church’s teaching.

I don’t know, they seem to put a lot of emphasis on tolerance, diversity and inclusion

That’s encouraging, although the article shared by derryrose is a bit concerning, although obviously coming from a strongly religious perspective

I think this is the latest Vatican pronouncement. It is a lot of words, but I think it boils down to ‘biology is important’?

I have taught using them. They come at everything from a Catholic perspective, but show a range of views. The description of the materials in the article linked above is accurate, although I don't share their views on it. I was pretty alarmed that it tells teenagers that tracking cycles is as effective contraception as barrier methods! (I'm not Catholic, but judging by the small size of most Catholic families I know these days, most Catholics have abandoned this bit of Catholic teaching!) It also teaches that masturbation is wrong, which a lot of staff complained about. I haven't taught the bits which mention trans, I'm afraid. I can take a look as I have a teacher login.

I would say that being a Catholic school is no guarantee of a sensible trans policy though, my school SLT are big fans of Stonewall.

Thanks @ValancyRedfern
