Well, not JUST about us, but a lot of it is. 😁

www.spectator.co.uk/article/why-the-next-wave-of-feminism-is-conservative

”Mumsnetters, as the name suggests, are overwhelmingly mothers, the most natural and instinctive defenders of children.”

Interesting. I used to be a Labour voting feminist and now vote Conservative primarily for free speech reasons and the fact that not all Tory MPs have swallowed the gender identity ideology anti-science. I said to my DH this evening that my vote will never return to the UK left. They have insulted me far too much with the TWAW nonsense.

Thanks for that.
Though I think she over-eggs the protective mother bear stuff. It would be interesting to know what proportion of posters on mn, and on this board in particular, fit into that category.
I'm in my mid '60s and should strictly be on gransnet, except that it's just not as good as mn. And I care about this because I care for Women's Rights.

Good article. I too have been astounded by the level of crackpottery tolerated, nay promulgated by the Labour Party, the LibDems and the Green Party, regarding the Sex/Gender debate. I formerly voted Labour, but will never do so while this basic denial of reality is part of their platform. So it could be said I have become more conservative, or is it that the Left has become more looney?

As to the precocious sexualisation of children, it’s important that they understand the Wild West of the internet and sensible boundaries should absolutely be taught in schools, as a kind of antidote. I’m certain that Sex Positivity is not working out that well for girls and young women. I fully believe that (hopefully) in the not too distant future all of us will be truly horrified that we ever let children have such huge amounts of unsupervised access to porn and other extremely dodgy websites.

Great article. I’ve enjoyed a couple of interviews with Louise Perry recently. I think she’s got the measure of it. I’d still describe myself as centre-left, but recognise that as a university educated, married mum, a lot of my values are quite conservative. Still not voting Tory. Our MP is an ERG idiot.

Late 40s, children, university educated and left leaning- still left-leaning despite all this gender bollocks (pun intended 😉) still voting Labour - as a Northern lass, my hatred of the Tory party will never die. No offence or disrespect intended to their many supporters - free speech and democracy happily respected 😀

Isn’t there a difference between being socially conservative and politically conservative. I think many of us have discovered we want societal boundaries to protect us, our children and the most vulnerable.

The issue then is not whether people have turned politically conservative but whether they believe the Labour Party will represent their interests.

Equally the political left perhaps need to realise that liberal and libertarian are two very different things.

'To say that this new right-leaning feminist movement is maternal is not to say that it is cuddly. Keen is maternal in the way that a bear is maternal – that is, without mercy. Fearless aggression in the face of a threat to one’s young is an adaptive response that we share with all female mammals. It’s a powerful instinct, and now all mothers can join in, even if they’re housebound or with a baby cradled in one arm.'

💪

I'm 'conservative' about things that need conserving like safeguarding children and woman's rights.

I have never voted Tory, and am not sure I can bring myself to do so now, but I sure as hell won't ever be voting Labour, Lib Dem, or Green again. Will probably abstain unless the SDP stand locally. I'm in a super-marginal seat, so even a few GC voters who do the same could swing the result here.

Musomama1 · 28/10/2022 14:17

My take is that the left has moved to the far left in terms of RSE, gender ideology, self ID etc. Every position needs a limit.

I see myself in this article but I would argue it's not conservative to want a limit on extremes that children are being exposed to. Conservative seems to me to now simply mean common sense when faced with Labour and the other parties point of view.

Magelica · 28/10/2022 14:22

Mumsnet isn't exclusively made up of mums, though. I have no children of my own (adult DSC), ditto two of my best friends who also lurk on the FWR boards: there's almost nowhere else to discuss these issues without being #bekinded into silence.

WomenShouldWinWomensSports · 28/10/2022 14:23

I'm in that demographic. Furthermore it wasn't until I had kids that I realised what issues there were with the current status quo.
