Hadn't heard anything about this until now.

God sounds like the whole of the Tavistock is ideologically captured. Good for her standing up to this nonsense.

beastlyslumber · 23/10/2022 19:03

I know, sounds like the rot has set in deep there.

Quelle surprise.

Lol that they said Martin Luther king's ideas were discredited...

Needmoresleep · 24/10/2022 08:59

She is very articulate.

What is particularly interesting is the way she looks at the behaviour and ascribes it symptoms. As if the organisation were a patient. Neurotic seems to be her diagnosis. You treat, don’t pander.

I work in organisational development with organisations supporting traumatised women and we talk about parallel processes a lot that the whole organisation can replicate the dynamics between worker and client, or clients and their other relationships.

beastlyslumber · 24/10/2022 09:06

Yes, that was really interesting. Also very clear how bringing ideology to the patient means that it's impossible to treat that patient properly or support their healing.

I have a friend who's a psychotherapist and I want to ask her what she thinks about all this, but I have a feeling that we won't be friends for much longer if I do.

Wow that's utterly insane.

TheClogLady · 24/10/2022 12:54

I wonder when it started?

Paul Jenkins stepped down (ostensibly due to early retirement) this summer. The timing of that announcement was slightly before the the GIDS closure news stories, and GIDS was one of T&Ps biggest income streams…

Donated. I'd like psychologists to be sane and not steeped in queer and critical race theory.

I think it's really important for people to understand that gender ideology is not a stand alone thing. It's part of a much larger construct and all of this anti-racism thinking is part of that.

A just as an aside, the degree to which I despise the fact that now anti-racism is now pretty much the same thing as old-fashioned 19th century scientific racism is really upsetting to me. Because like she says, if you stand against anti-racism, the implication is that you are a racist.

MangyInseam · 24/10/2022 14:12

I also raised my eyebrows at the bit where they told her Christianity was European.

That's just idiotically ignorant, why would anyone believe ideologies based on such stupid statements?

Yep. I've been called a racist and a nazi a few times now. Which, if you knew my background, should be completely laughable. But people are so wrapped up in this ideology, they lose all perspective.

I'm not an expert on all this, but about a year ago I read how they were starting to open up segregated schools in New York, using race theory as the argument for their need.

beastlyslumber · 24/10/2022 18:40

Yep, I've heard about lots of examples where they are segregating people by race. They even tried it in the college I used to work at. It's all under the guise of protecting black people but the effect is that they are putting black people and white people in separate rooms. My mixed race colleagues did not know where they were supposed to go.

One of my favourite (if that's the word) recent examples was that at the end of 2020 California had a ballot proposition to do this:

The ballot measure would repeal Proposition 209 (1996), which added the following provision to the California Constitution: “The State shall not discriminate against, or grant preferential treatment to, any individual or group on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin in the operation of public employment, public education, or public contracting.”

Read it again, if you didn't quite grasp it.

Yes, that's right, they wanted to remove the racial discrimination provision from the consititution (installed in the bad old days of the 1990s) because it was stopping them from doing whatever they want to do.

One of the most significant things I'm aware of wanting to discriminating in schools and colleges to try to get fewer Asian-American students. (Recent piece on that by Andrew Sullivan)

The proposition failed, thankfully - but only by 57% to 43%.

I’ve got quite a few friends who are experiencing similar issues within their own families, where the parents are of different racial heritage and kids are mixed (and often of varying appearances even when full siblings).

It’s bad enough when this critical race theory stuff pops up in workplaces and institutions but when it gets into the family unit it’s absolutely devastating.

I completely agree with all the points made in the video re: blaming personal difficulties on society renders much of mental health therapy useless.

Critical social justice theory works in direct opposition to something like Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, which is all about identifying the changes you can personally make and enacting them. Starting with the smallest things and building up to the bigger.

I personally worry that telling girls that women have always been oppressed by men and always will be has allowed Genderism to ooze in through the cracks.
After all, why would a modern day teenage girl listen to what silly old oppressed middle-aged Feminist mum has to say, when mum is clearly too stupid to escape her own oppression via a transition to ‘male’?

What could squeeze into the cracks created by critical race theory?

Unlike sex/gender you can’t transition from an oppressed race to an oppressor race (because: IDPOL reasons!) and disaffected men without a clear route towards change are (historically) prone to violence.

Surely no one wants that?

Indeed - their ignorance knows no bounds.

Yes, so-called "affinity housing". Very progressive! They'll be introducing racially segregated drinking fountains next...

WarriorN · 24/10/2022 20:31

The biggest irony is that it's not in the slightest bit "critical;" there's clearly zero critical thinking nor any evidenced analysis by the sounds of it.

It does make me think that debating and critical thinking, alongside research skills, should be back on the curriculum as mandatory.

MangyInseam · 24/10/2022 21:46

What could squeeze into the cracks created by critical race theory?

I always think of Glen Loury's comment on this.

White people could start looking at their own interests as an identity group.

Or they could start looking at things like, which races are in fact most implicated in violent crimes.

Because if you can look at that stuff in terms of whiteness, it is also perfectly logical to turn the method of analysis around.

beastlyslumber · 24/10/2022 21:55

I can't believe we live in a society where it's "racist" to agree with Martin Luther King. It's so depressing. I'm so done with all this shit. No longer have a job where I have to keep my mouth shut. But I don't know what to do, how to use my voice.

OP posts:
MangyInseam · 24/10/2022 22:26

It's the racism accusations that upset me. It shouldn't, but it does.

I think CRT as practiced by these people is a deeply racist theory. I also think most of the people who believe it are in fact not racists and think not being a racist is important.

So I make a point of not accusing people of racism and bigotry, but point out the problems with the ideas.

I wish others could do the same.

beastlyslumber · 24/10/2022 22:38

I think we have to keep pointing out the racism in critical race theory.

If we're scared of being called racist then we're silenced.
