I really don't understand how we got to that point.
I think it is great that we challenge gender stereotypes, respect people who have different sexual preferences and I have never had any issues with men who simply enjoy using things like make-up or wearing dresses as I don't see why these should only acceptable when used by women. After all we women can choose to wear trouser suits and have short hair. I also have no issue with gender fluidity. I am a bisexual woman myself and people would probably see me as fairly androgynous rather than a ''girly girl''.
BUT that does not mean I have to believe that you can magically become a woman simply by putting on lipstick and wearing a dress. Or that you can insist that everyone else denies the blindingly obvious: that you were not born a woman and therefore will never biologically be a woman.
The old Eddie who was so comfortable in his skin wearing heels and make-up was great. The new version, not so much.
I also don't get why there needs to be such a fuss about all of this. I am very happy for men to alter their appearance in a way that they consider to be feminine and live openly this way.
I would never discriminate against them in any way and respect their way of self-expression.
But why do I have to call them a woman or welcome them in women's changing rooms or toilets? there are not women and never will be.
That point of view needs to be respected too. Or the fact that many of us worry about children and teens starting their journey towards transition because we know full well that at that age you are unlikely to be equipped mentally and emotionally to make such a momentous decision to forever alter your body.
I think the more extreme the behaviour and demands, the more of us who started on the fence or were initially supportive because no one should be victimised because of their sexuality or appearance will just be put off by it.
I think unfortunately the activists are often achieving the opposite of what they wanted to achieve. All common sense has been lost at this stage and debate is just being silenced.
