I didn't even know the council existed, but I'm glad they are voicing their concerns:

Will they listen? So the aim us 16 year olds can ‘live as’ the opposite sex for 3 months and hey presto…

16 year olds ‘live as’ - what does that even mean?

WHIT EVEN IS BIOETHICS

The Chair of the Council, Dr Anthony Latham, has been very vocal on this issue and I’m pleased to see the wider council picking up his concerns and the Times reporting on it.

The group has urged the Scottish government to postpone a vote on the bill, expected on October 26, until the health, social care and sport committee has appropriately examined it.

This is a good point that I'm ashamed to say I hadn't considered before. So far it has been the Equalities committee looking at this, and it has been treated as a purely equalities issue. Which it isn't.

It’s not, despite the SNP being adamant this legal process has nothing to do with the medical side. Many many of us argued the two could not be separated, that they are the two sides of the same coin. It is so frustrating, particularly now on the back of the NHS specs for the new interim GIDS services which urges caution (to put it mildly) on both the medical path AND social transition for the under 18s.

“Not a mental health disorder” just seems to have a high chance of having other mental health disorders that we won’t treat if we can transition you. I’d LOVE to see the ethics of that examined.

If the legal process is entirely unrelated to any medical process, who do they think this law is for? If it's not for transsexuals who have medically transitioned or intend to, who is it for?

Is it just so that rapists can get into women's prisons more easily?

Opens it up to being a lifestyle choice, doesn’t it?

OldCrone · 21/10/2022 08:47

If they'd admit that it's a lifestyle choice, we could get away from all this legal recognition nonsense and just treat it like any other lifestyle choice.

This is going to be another Named Person bill and Stergon et al don't care
