Ok - I've asked to be part of a focus group as I'm a police officer and they are asking for participation.

I would like as a female pc to raise some of the issues I've seen here .

However- complete technophobe . The session is by some online fuckery next weds and I'm clueless ! Can anyone help ? They've said I can defer it and I will because I don't know how this online thing works . The group admin is in London and I'm ooop north .

Which bits do you need help with?

If it's the tech bits, do you know the platform?

My lot tend to use Teams

stillvicarinatutu · 11/10/2022 01:53

I need help with the whole thing!

It's an online call - that's all the email says !

OP posts:
stillvicarinatutu · 11/10/2022 01:56

I can defer it to another session.

OP posts:
stillvicarinatutu · 11/10/2022 01:58

And I need to know what you women would like raised from a police
Perspective. I know trust in police as absolutely 0. I'd like to talk about that and why .

stillvicarinatutu · 11/10/2022 02:02

Teams is easy but this says an online call .....?

OP posts:
stillvicarinatutu · 11/10/2022 02:03

It's scheduled for an hour . I really want to do it - what do I need to ask about the online call and how it works ?

OP posts:
SuperLoudPoppingAction · 11/10/2022 02:05

I would assume an online call was teams but you could check with the facilitator.

stillvicarinatutu · 11/10/2022 02:09

I've emailed them

Do you need help with the tech or help with what to raise?

If tech, you first need to find out the details about what platform they’re using. The admin person should be more useful in terms of making it work than a bunch of people on here, but people might be able to give you useful tips on how to present yourself on different platforms.

If it’s a question of what to raise - who is the focus group for? What’s it’s purpose? Who else will be participating?

Are they after your opinion on what you think is important for the police to concentrate on (priorities and values type of thing), or your experience in the field working with people, or something else?

WarriorN · 11/10/2022 06:29

Do you have an IT dept who can help with the tech?

Re other stuff, gawd where to start!

Did you read what happened to Jennifer Gilchrist?

Arnaquer · 11/10/2022 06:36

How do you manage day to day?
And what do you mean by
'You women'?!

RoseslnTheHospital · 11/10/2022 06:45

I don't know if the police force realise the cumulative effect of cases like Shana Grice, Sarah Everard, the officers caught being criminally misogynist/racist about Bibaa Henry and Nicole Smallman, just to name a few cases. Add in the miserable conviction rate for rape/sexual assault and it just seems like the police are unable/unwilling to address deep seated misogyny and racism. That's what I'd want to get across. I don't know if I'd ever go to the police if anything ever happened to me like that.

Rightsraptor · 11/10/2022 06:46

Jennifer Gilchrist @WarriorN ? What did happen?

Off the top of my head and at 6.37 am OP, my main concern about the police is their apparent total capture by a political group.

Somme forces are allowing themselves to be used as personal enforcement officers by various individuals on the other side. Kellie Jay Keen, Caroline Farrow, Kate Scottow & Harry Miller to name a few, have been subjected to this. The police have been told to stop recording non-crime 'hate incidents' yet they persist. They have chosen a side where they should be impartial. This is unforgivable. And don't start me on the 'Pride' clown cars some forces have.

And are they responding to calls from the rest of us when we've been burgled or assaulted? No.

They got a long way to go before they regain one iota of trust from many people.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 11/10/2022 06:57

It will be via Teams, Zoom or Google meetings. All work in the same way, you'll get an email with a link. You click on the link and follow the instructions on screen. Make sure you have headphones with a microphone and that you're somewhere with a stable 8nternet connection.

Sorry Jennifer Swayne!

The way the police interpret and understand "trans" and then "trans hate" is completely out of control.

Rhonda Hotchkiss has been speaking about the issue Jennifer was highlighting a lot.

Some issues for starters…

  1. recording of a person’s self declared gender rather than their sex meaning that male sex offences and violence as if it has been carried out by women.
  2. giving false information on sex to the press so that it is often reported that male offenders are women.
  3. the rules around strip searching in some police forces that enable male officers who say they are women to do intimate searches on females.
  4. the police still not fully cooperating with the police spies enquiry (where multiple women were manipulated into having relationships with undercover officers sometimes for years)
Signalbox · 11/10/2022 08:00

Cathy Larkman, retired superintendent with 30 years experience, is good on the strip search policy issue. Also she is generally positive about policing so maybe a good person to listen to.

Another issue, the strip searching of children, particularly the case of the girl who was strip searched at school. Just a complete overreach of any reasonable powers, resulting in sexist and racist behaviour. Again.

Snowberry3 · 11/10/2022 08:22

I think their biggest problem is their lack of response to negative media - apparently in the US when there is a complaint of rough treatment or racism etcetc they can immediately release body camera footage of the event. Here any complaint goes to the ?IOPC and is not heard of again for months or years while they investigate- in the meantime you have months and years of headlines about the event accusations of racism , hiding the truth, why wasn’t the constable sacked, re churning of Sarah Everard, misogyny - when the facts come out unless it is negative it disappears with almost no reporting. You don’t see headlines ‘The Police were doing a good job, we got it wrong’ ever.

Snowberry3 · 11/10/2022 08:31

Some of the things people are listing are judicial decisions. The police don’t make the laws.
an axample of daft laws were the laws introduced to get snappy headlines by the gov during covid - the police were given nonsense instructions on what was or wasn’t allowed then lambasted for carrying them out.
why isn’t someone senior in the police or representing the police in the home office pulling up the gov and arguing the case for the police so these things aren’t passed in law ….. another one is the non- crime hate bollox - it makes the police look like muppets.

Yes absolutely

JacquelinePot · 11/10/2022 13:31

Any good researcher would give you the option to participate via telephone if youare unable or uncomfortable to do a video call

IcakethereforeIam · 11/10/2022 13:51

Policing of trans activists at women's events.

And thank you, good luck with the tech. If it's helpful I can break out into a cold sweat for you!
