The Scottish government appears to be going ahead with gender recognition reform even though it's highly unpopular.

Ah, all of the ones who voted in favour, then:

'The majority of the Committee shares the position of the Scottish Human Rights Commission and others that the Cass Review’s findings do not relate to Scotland, being focussed on England only and concern the provision of gender identity healthcare there.'

There is no legal or official definition of what "ordinarily resident" means. One can claim to have moved to Scotland permanently and apply within days of arriving.

There is no way to prove otherwise, because it's all in the intent. As long as one does not proudly proclaim to be pretending to move to Scotland, how would the authorities prove ill intent?

It is perfectly normal for people to realise they've made the wrong decision in moving somewhere and then to move again asap.

So essentially, anyone in the UK could apply. No word yet on validity outside of Scotland though.

I gave evidence in a private meeting with the committee and did my best to explain just why the Cass Review was important and why lowering the age to 16 should be withdrawn until the full report is out and then reviewed on the back of any findings. I knew full well going in that only Rachael Hamilton and Pam Gosal would have an open mind. It was obviously going to be a fruitless exercise but still worth doing only so that it is documented in future that they were well warned by a number of parents speaking from personal experience and feminists.

Thank you, and well done, rogdmum.

At the very least, they cannot say they weren't warned.

The removal of the requirement for an applicant to have gender dysphoria and therefore the removal of the requirement for medical reports;

I just cannot get my head around this.

I have empathy for those who have such crippling body dysmorphia that they feel the only way to alleviate it is to change their body to match how they feel. But without that, what is the reason for allowing some members of the population change their legal sex, other than because they want to?

HOW can the Scottish Govt not see that this approach is wide open to abuse?
