This is unbelievable - it is called "terfs stop being transphobic challenge"

Probably for the best. There’s no point everyone laughing at a confused, teenage writer of poor poetry.

JunebuginDecember · 05/10/2022 21:36

Loved it.

somebody tagged the trustees on twitter, I'm guessing that prompted a phone call!

Shakespeare would have been so proud.

My heart is so sad.

That these young women look across the years and see us older women as bitches.

Not seeing the young women we were, and the invisible women we are now, who defied gender stereotypes.

Who were lucky enough to live in a small sliver of the corner of the world where we existed, where we got to break out of small corners of those boxes.

"It makes them so blind that they can't see the path down which they're being lead
is another fucking path being paved by fucking men"

newrubylane · 05/10/2022 23:29

"We can't stand against them when they turn your anger onto us"

Who can't stand against who when who turns whose anger onto who?

The is is why the actual meanings of pronouns are important, even outside of the male/female context.

Shakespeare would have been so proud.

To be fair, cross-dressers were celebrated at the Globe in his day...

The "poem" gives doggerel a bad name.

(Actually, that should be "who can't stand against whom when who turns whose anger onto whom?' but I still probably made more sense than the original.)

Like you I found it interesting to look at what it revealed about the writer’s self image and need to present herself as young, radical, ground breaking, and - it goes without saying - the opposite of mature women.

So her emotions make her: better, wiser, cleverer, more beautiful. In contrast mature women’s emotions in her poem make them: stupider and uglier. You can understand her position though - I mean slagging off older women is just so fresh, innovative, creative and cutting edge, isn’t it? And definitely not internalised misogyny. No, no, no, no, no. And not ageist either. Of course not! A young ‘un being lazily and unthinkingly discriminatory in a way that’s acceptably on trend? Impossible! And, obviously, it’s not at all the case that there’s no risks or downsides to being hateful about mature women, whereas writing poetry detailing just how unpleasant and banal you find men might possibly hamper your publication chances. That’s definitely not a factor either.

On a less stereotypically angry note….interesting that her hatred of men leads her to try to present herself as Not Woman rather leading her to celebrate herself as a woman or celebrate other women as women.

I feel genuinely sorry for the lass.

I know what my old mum would say though: ah well, she’ll learn.

disclaimer: too lazy to research but I’m assuming she’s a young woman as the artistic stimulus for the piece was Jeanne d’Arc.

How many threads about this? You're almost as prolific as Shakespeare himself!

When the hurlyburly's done
When the battle's lost and won

I'm pretty sure that The Globe will stay standing.

Did you do Macbeth for GCSE too, Passme?

Chrysanthemum5 · 05/10/2022 23:43

I guess it will still stand @Passmethewhat but it can do that on the money of men. I won't be wasting any of my time on it

I studied far too much of the fucker including his bloody sonnets which were arguably less morbid.

ha! 😄

A controversial opinion I know, but I think an awful lot of Shakespeare is absolute rubbish. Can’t stand opera either. Or jazz.

On the other hand I’ve got no problem with the Globe producing that play (it’s entirely predictable in the current context that someone would seek to ‘update’ ‘reframe’ and ‘reimagine for the modern day’ Jeanne d’Arc) nor with them tweeting that poem. As long as they’re not producing porn, as far as I’m concerned the Globe can do what they like or think will put bums on seats / feet in the bear pit. It was interesting to read that young person’s perceptions of herself, and her prejudices and lack of imagination & insight into the lives, thoughts, motivations and experiences of mature women. I genuinely feel sympathy for her. And I’ve got enough life experience to not expect that to work both ways.

Both the post and the Globe page on it seem to have disappeared...
Anyone got a screengrab, or the text of the poem?

bellinisurge · 06/10/2022 10:23

I'd need to dig on Twitter to get a screenshot but they are there.
Screenshot EVERYTHING. These wankers need sunlight on them

CrossPurposes · 06/10/2022 11:04

If you scroll back (or up) this thread you'll find grabs posted yesterday evening.

terfs stop being transphobic challenge

the lion, the witch, the audacity of this bitch
to question my authority on bodily autonomy.

mutilations. in their words. a sacreligous scourge,
this societal condition. transgender affliction
tearing up the youth, turning boys into girls.

we're lopping titties off of toddlers.
you'd think to hear them speak,
with so much garbage locked inside
it's a wonder they survive.

now they're questioning my right to proudly self-identify,
want to pacify. pathologize every aspect of my life,
want to take away my choices whilst the men take theirs from them,
want to put me in the ground, want to silence me again.

I just think they're scared because I am angrier than them,
because I am angry at them and angry at men,
but my anger doesn't blind, it only clarifies,
and that makes them tucking scared, I can see it in their eyes.
even as they glaze over with transphobic lies.

my beauty astounds them, their anger confounds me,
I don't know how they're alive, it makes them so blind
that they can't see the path down which they're being lead
is another fucking path being paved by fucking men.

we can't stand against them when they turn your anger onto us.
so please, for once, show us some fucking love,
and remember that we're seeking the same thing that you seek,
a world made for everyone, the bold and the meek,
our liberation's intertwined. it's been like this all the time,
watch the patriarchy crumble as you just stand beside
your transgender brothers and sisters.
please join us in the fight.
