I see this is coming soon on BBC.
if I remember rightly, CIN gave money to Mermaids in previous years ( correct me if I am wrong) ……I wonder if CIN will be doing again this year……

I remember wading through pages and pages on there a couple of years ago as I refused to donate to the school event. The search function isn't that good but I did find this on Gendered Intelligence:

www.bbcchildreninneed.co.uk/projects/gendered-intelligence-community-interest-company-2/

"This project will provide monthly group support sessions for trans young people, enabling them to reduce their isolation, increase their resilience, and improve their sense of self and emotional wellbeing.
Funding: £135,576.00
Category: Youth servicesLocation: London
Region: Greater London"

You can't tell when this money was paid. That doesn't bother me, I still won't donate, not least since GI is still running its ages 8-25 swimming, among other things with inappropriate age groupings:

genderedintelligence.co.uk/trans-youth/youth-group.html

Back to CIN, they signpost to GI and Stonewall:

www.bbcchildreninneed.co.uk/changing-lives/supporting-young-people-with-their-gender-and-sexual-identity/

That link includes one to SW's reading for kids. For ages 2-4, you get this:

www.stonewall.org.uk/lgbtq-inclusive-books-children-aged-2-4

The ones under trans inclusion are worth a look.

No Mermaids that I can see in their last accounts (y/e 2021).

ArabellaScott · 04/10/2022 21:41

Sorry, in Mermaids' accounts, to be clear!

@ResisterRex that book list is eye opening and quite horrifying. The brainwashing starts young.

ResisterRex · 04/10/2022 21:46

I agree. There I was, reading boring old books like The Gruffalo!! Obviously parenting all wrong

Ramblingnamechanger · 04/10/2022 23:16

The crayon one is ludicrous …of all the examples they choose, it’s one where you cannot change colour! Very dangerous rubbish to be putting in any child’s way but for that age group, really?

No doubt someone somewhere is “queering” the Gruffalo.

@FrancescaContini "No doubt someone somewhere is “queering” the Gruffalo."

Please no. I loved Julia Donaldson books when my DS was young. The lesbian couple in Tabby McTat is exactly what inclusion and visibility means to me. Not the focus of the story. Just a normal couple who happen to be the same sex. No rainbow glitter or unicorns required.

God is it that time again? I’ve not given to them for a few years now (for this reason) and find it pretty ironic that they aren’t helping these children in need. I’m going to suggest we raise money for the local kids hospice. They need it.

ImherewithBoudica · 05/10/2022 08:45

I agree it is far better to support local charities. All the big ones at this point are captured and thoroughly down the rabbit hole, not to mention the money wasted on high paid jobs, offices, etc etc.

This year the local food bank are my main target for support, they're going to be badly needed this winter.

Mollyollydolly · 05/10/2022 14:15

I don't donate to charities like CIN or Comic Relief anymore. It's so difficult to know where your money goes. As we all know it's not just Mermaids, there are other charities with a similar mission that don't have the same profile that they may give money to. Much better to give to small charities with a specific aim that you support. My view of the charity sector has changed A LOT since all this started.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/10/2022 15:12

CIN used to fund Mermaids. The page detailing this in the below thread has been removed, who knows when.
