Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Charities that help girls/women

For the past 20 years I have been supporting Save the Children but feel that as they continue to be a Stonewall Champion, I can no longer give them my money. I wondered if anyone could suggest alternative charities that better align with feminist principles and that actually do help! I dont have a lot of spare cash but am wondering if it is better just to donate to smaller, local charities instead?

What about Women's Aid?
I have only had a quick read, but it seems that a lot of their services are losing council funding because they won't provide gender neutral services rather than single sex services.

I give to a local childrens hospice and sos childrens villages (international child charity / non political or religious - and no whiff of Oxfam-style shenanigans).

Well they don’t start well on the website - but the rest of the site states women and girls. Why do they do this? I would read this and clock away.

“We work to support those who menstruate…”

JK Rowling’s Charity, Lumous, is a children’s (boys and girls) charity. And presumably never likely to become a Stonewall champion!

If you are in Scotland try Women's Fund for Scotland.

Lots of Community Foundations have Women's Funds.

There was a good thread last year on similar lines:

I sponsor a girl through Plan, I like that they really seem to recognise and talk about issues that affect girls judging by the emails and magazines they send.

Brodie's Trust in Scotland. Quite niche but women only. Find them on Facebook. I think the image is a cartoon elephant.

if you are interested in charities working overseas, you may want to support
Beyond FGM a female led charity that works alongside local partners and has been very succesful ending FGM and child marriage in a remote part of Kenya

It's a crying shame that there are still communities that do not have access to safe water and adequate sewage, and this page explains why their work has particularly strong benefits for women and girls

I would like to suggest

Refuge

for women and children. From their website - 1 in 4 women in England and Wales experience domestic abuse.
