I’m afraid, MNHQ, should you get complaints about the thread title, that they need directing to the publishers of “The Doe”; or the author of this <a class="break-all" href="https://archive.ph/2022.09.01-205058/www.thedoe.com/narratives/surprising-gender-euphoria-of-misogyny" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">article from last month, as using its title for the thread to discuss it seemed the most appropriate choice.
I’ve came across it now as the author has made a lot of people really quite cross with their piece on Hey Alma about being an atheist Jewish convert. As in, an atheist who decides to become a Jewish atheist; no momentary reconciliation with God in there even. “Hey Alma”, assuming most posters aren’t familiar with it, describes itself as: a feminist Jewish culture site and online community bringing you a diversity of voices. We publish daily articles about pop culture, politics, news, identity, holidays and more, all through a Jewish lens. Publishing that article on the 28th when Rosh Hashanah ended on the 27th this year? Ok then.
This writer does at least seem to grasp women don’t like being catcalled. But framing it as some kind of heroic sacrifice not to flirt with catcallers is boggling. Is the expectation that their “cis-ters” be grateful? Next in line for a statue & a smattering of road names etc as a reward for their services to feminism & patriarchy-smashing?
I was so thrown by the whole thing I’m afraid I thought it best to spread the WTAFery of it.
Male people, however they identify, cannot experience misogyny. Who knew the postmodern “sound one hand clapping”/“if a tree falls in a forest…” would involve identifying as experiencing forms of oppression that are by definition inapplicable; & atheists identifying as Jewish (as distinct from, of course, Jewish people who are atheist)…?
