Poor girl, she supports mixed sex changing because "everyone feels included" but she recommends that lone females don't use it for their own safety.
Using a fitting room shouldn't be like walking home in the dark, if you need your wits about you then women have lost something.

The only way to guarantee your safety and privacy is to try clothes on at home. Sad but true.

No, it's to have single sex changing rooms again.

That still wouldn't guarantee safety unfortunately, due to the number of employees on the shop floor being slashed by retail most changing rooms no longer have a dedicated staff member overseeing them.

MrsJamin · 25/09/2022 09:12

Poor woman. She's been sold a lie: be kind, be inclusive, transwomen are women, share your space, life will be better for everyone, including you. It's a lie and she's realised this. It's clear she's very fearful in the video. I would never use unisex changing rooms as they shouldn't exist.

Helleofabore · 25/09/2022 09:16

I have complained to Primark in 2019 a few times about an incident where a man came and sat directly outside my teen’s cubicle and I quickly jumped up the close the gap of the woman’s curtain beside my teens as she was oblivious to the man’s presence. I was told my complaint will not be escalated and there was no further process available to me.

Primark know. Primark as a corporate actively don’t care, despite that their staff may be aware . Their customer service online seem to have been told to shut down complaints about the changing rooms.

It just needs more people to actively complain via social media like this.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 25/09/2022 09:38

This is an example of what sounds like cis (and I don't like using that term) men being asses. This isn't a trans issue.

it is a trans issue though innit?

what does a transwoman look like? I don't fucking know. how are shop staff supposed to gatekeep the women's changing rooms when any hairy six footer who feels a bit ladylike today should be allowed in?

That's precisely why we want boundaries around single sex spaces. By allowing unisex places, any male can come in, because predators will take advantage, whether they have a gender identity or not.

I think the only acceptable unisex changing room scenario would be like good unisex toilets. Large, floor to ceiling enclosed and open up in public view. Not around a corner, tightly packed and with gaps.

How does a transwoman transform from male-bodied person that most women do not want to share intimate spaces with to one that they consider safe?

When they declare they feel more like a woman than a man? When they grow out their hair? When they wear a skirt and stilettos? When they take hormones that make them cry a bit more? When they cut off parts of their anatomy or have prosthetic breasts inserted? When they change their birth certificate?

ArabellaScott · 25/09/2022 10:06

Women: Keep yourselves covered up. Stay home. Respect males' needs to use any changing room, any space, any toilet they need.

ArabellaScott · 25/09/2022 10:09

Women are good at apologising for their own oppression.

I hope this woman somehow encounters some brave, bold women who allow her to consider - without judgement - why she was scared, how she could counter that, and what it takes to help build a world where all of our daughters can feel confident living in it.

She is correct that we can't do this alone. Women have strength when they band together with other women.

exactly

nothing a man can do will make him less of a man and more of a woman

cos that's not possible

in the 'good' old days, exceptions were made for the small number of men who had undergone radical surgery or were evidently committed to wearing stereotypically female clothes and make up

however I have shared single sex spaces with individuals like this and can't say it was ever a comfortable experience. I still perceived them as men.

while I accept that shop staff can't possibly be expected to police single sex spaces, at least having them would be a good start. those men who upset that woman were opportunist predators. primark gave the the opportunity to get their jollies. like most bullies they're probably cowards and wouldn't have invaded a women's changing rooms.

Northernsoullover · 25/09/2022 10:16

I went to a venue last night that had gender neutral toilets upstairs and separate male and female downstairs. Initially I didn't realise that the upstairs were gender neutral so headed that way. I saw big burly blokes exiting and I was hit by the smell of piss. I was directed to the female toilets. Job done ✔️. None of the females used the GN. So in that venue the men had 2 x toilets and women just one.
So now in Primark if we all try our clothes on at home the men have their own changing room and we have none? Single sex spaces are still a thing... if you are male.

Whatwouldscullydo · 25/09/2022 10:20

That video is heart breaking. Shes apologising fir being traumatised and grateful for being walked to the car by the very people implementing policies that put her in the traumatic situation in the first place.

And this is progressive? Lone women and girls excluded from primark unless they have the time and money to buy multiple clothes in multiple sizes and return what doesn't fit? All so men don't have to hear the word no..a word even toddlers understand...

JamSandle · 25/09/2022 10:21

Women need their own spaces for their physical safety. It is disgusting this is being eroded.

FlibbertyGiblets · 25/09/2022 10:24

I feel so sorry for her, she has had a dreadful shock, learning a hard way that although NAMALT, lots are.

The dissonance between being inclusive and finding out that the inclusiveness puts you at risk is huge.

Whatwouldscullydo · 25/09/2022 10:30

It must be horrifying to realise that the very men /males who says you'd be perfectly safe and welcomed you to the group when you said all the right things about inclusivity and NAMALT are now nowhere to be seen. They arent there to protect you and will now pile on you for raising the issues.

It was all for nothing

No, it's to have single sex changing rooms again.

She said she supports mixed sex changing rooms because she knows she will be denounced as transphobic if she doesn't. She has to do this public cognitive dissonance to avoid being cast out.

This is what trans ideology has done to young women.

Exactly this.

I refuse to accept the only way to avoid harassment by strange men is to stay in your own home. I refuse to have the rights and freedoms I grew up with abolished.

unwashedanddazed · 25/09/2022 10:40

So Monsoon gets one tweet from a tearful young man upset that he can't use the women's changing rooms, in response they declare all changing rooms open to everyone and, here, have a free dress crying boy, we'll get the nasty ladies under control for you.

Primark has been trending since yesterday, currently on 22k tweets. Absolute silence.

When will women get the same power and influence as a single teenage boy?

Whatwouldscullydo · 25/09/2022 10:46

Especially when the only reason you are able to protest, complain against them is because you have them.

If the women before these young women joining the mra/tra crews against feminists and " dinosaurs/terfs" whatever it is they wanna call us, hadn't fought for womens rights , then they'd be no female students at university to protest against speakers.

They'd have no job to complain about " transphobic policies"

They'd not be able to get a train to speakers corner or to picket outside a building. I mean they would have no money. No bank account. Nothing.

And it's the third abuse of the primark changing rooms that I'm aware of this year.

The other 2 are:

Sheffield primark in August twitter.com/bbcsheffield/status/1560621388033056768?s=21&t=6TrAxUbjgoPnRY_cbpe6gw

And The police officer who took video footage in March www.itv.com/news/london/2022-07-22/met-pc-who-filmed-woman-changing-and-made-indecent-images-of-child-walks-free

itwasntmetho · 25/09/2022 09:02

It kind of is a trans issue, what was the reason for unisex changing rooms?
Who needed to feel included?
The only acceptable way is a fixed door which covers floor to ceiling without gaps due to the number of men who have filmed or taken pictures under the door, then that wouldn't even be unisex, that would be individual changing rooms.

And even then there would be an increased risk of a man leaving a camera there and accessing the footage remotely.

And it wouldn't address women's reasonable desire to be able to step out of the cubicle and look at the clothes from a distance in a full length mirror without men around

Last mixed sex toilets I saw... a door from bar area leads to a room with sinks in it. To the right are 4 cubicles with pictures of men and women on them. To the left is another door which leads to the men's toilets.

Twinsmummy1812 · 25/09/2022 11:08

I went to the ladies loo at a motorway service station last week and when I came out of the cubicle I could immediately feel a charged atmosphere. I looked around and a man had walked in the entranceway. A couple of women were standing in front of him and one said something (presumably pointing out he was in the ladies or asking him to leave). He looked a bit confused, although you clearly had to walk past the gents to get to the ladies and he left. I know this sounds like hyperbole but I was proud of that atmosphere, not an eyes down acceptance, not wanting to make waves. At least a dozen women just standing stock still in a flash of solidarity. I suspect there will be a backlash to complete inclusion and it’s coming.

EsmaCannonball · 25/09/2022 11:10

Yay! Inclusive for everyone ..... except women who've dared to go shopping without a chaperone. What wonderful progress!
