Quite an interesting discussion on Unherd.

Aella is an OnlyFans porn star, Louise Perry wrote 'Against the sexual revolution'.

The thoughts of Aella:

omg I disagree with them both so much. But I particularly dislike Aella's apparent belief that keeping secrets from your life partner is fine actually. She's cool with the johns lying to their wives and the OnlyFans girls strategising on how to hide their past from male partners.

No, wait, Aella's belief that women being into BDSM is a function of evolution is probably the worst part. (Speaking as someone who used to be into BDSM, enough to go to parties etc before 50 Shades made it all mainstream, and isn't remotely aroused by that shit any more because I developed a healthy sexuality.)

nope... turns out the stupidest part of all was her belief that reducing the stigma on sex work would make prostitution a better job. I thought people got over that kind of utopian "feminist" thinking around 2010 or so. As Louise pointed out, sex buyers don't respect prostitutes. They remain strangely impervious to the theorising of naive internet feminists. Aella seems to have tapped into a niche of buyers who want an intelligent woman who'll flatter their egos, so she's not dealing with the vicious brute types.

The top comment is much more intelligent and to the point than anything either of these women has to say:

Aella wants to normalize and legalize sex buying, which inevitably leads to an increase in trafficking.eprints.lse.ac.uk/45198/1/Neumayer_Legalized_Prostitution_Increase_2012.pdf Why? Because there is never enough willing “supply” to meet demand. The gaps can be very profitably filled by girls who are too poor and unsupported to say “no”.

In general I suspect being exposed to other ppl's sexuality is not as harmful for kids as our culture thinks it is

ArabellaScott · 22/09/2022 14:24

Well, that escalated quickly. In some ways, it's probably useful for people to see these arguments out in the open.

I noticed this thread yesterday, I've not read it all. The op claims to be or have been a sex worker. It's a long initial post and pretty grim.

That's an unvarnished account. Thanks, cake.

Aella is known entirely for stupid takes on Twitter. She needs to be ignored.

Aella's opinion is not dissimilar to our cultural starting position of previous decades. We have developed our current attitude towards adults engaging in sexual behaviour in proximity of children because of hundreds of thousands of child abuse victims spoke about how it had made them feel once they reached adulthood.

People like Aella like to delude themselves abuse is only perceived as abuse because of "social stigma around sex". No. Abuse has a negative psychological impact because human beings, including children, are able to perceive when someone else is using them.

Using people as a resource for your gratification hurts them. And it's mostly female people or children who are cast as the resource, and adult male people who do the using. Stop justifying it.
