My random thoughts on WPATH and the recent conference.
WPATH is a dying organization that has lost all credibility so I can't see many countries taking much notice of the new Standards of Care and I'm convinced the NHS wouldn't dare be that stupid, again. They blindly followed WPATHs SOC7 when agreeing the service contract for GIDS with huge chunks of the SOC7 cut and pasted but when they had to defend that approach in the Keira Bell case, they couldn't.
WPATH seems to have lost the respect of all sides. GC people certainly do not think much of them but more importantly they have lost the support of the TRAs.
Seeing tweets from this conference is such a contrast to the tweets that came out in 2018, and 2020.
There were no, or very few, incredibly excited delegates crowing about what an honour it was to be there. While none of the mainstream trans organizations seem to be mentioning WPATH let alone talking about the release of what would previously be hailed as 'international best practice'
In previous conferences they published oral extracts. There were video clips, participant reports and numerous slides circulated online of the topics being discussed which gave rise to lots of praise and adoration from trans groups. This time it was all kept behind closed doors.
Finally a group of TW stormed the conference on the first day and police were called in to remove them. The TWs group (TRAPS) feel that WPATH does not represent them and appear to see WPATH as a group of 'gate keeping' medics only interested in making money.
This is the statement that TRAPs attempted to read out at WPATH 2022
