The solution to drowning out speakers at events

I have just seen a short Facebook live where Posie Parker was being drowned out at her Brighton event. Drowning out seems to be the main counter attack they have, hence response of "let women speak".

I think I have a rough answer to how we can get around it, it's too late now for today but we should use the same technology they use at a Silent Disco.

Has anyone ever been to one? You wear headphones and the DJ plays the music into each individual's headphones. Well we could use the same technique for these events.

Everyone gets a set of headphones and the speakers words are sent to the headphones. You will hear a bit of the background noise but you'll still get a much clearer audio experience. You will hear women speak.
Everyone can have a set of headphones - all can hear if they want. Even the TRAs.

At the same time the live stream of the speakers is broadcast online so that a huge audience can also hear.

What do you think? Could it work?

Someone would need to help Posie or whoever needs it, implement it but could be a funny workaround?

If the event is all about "let women speak" why is there so much hate targeted towards Emma Watson coming from the Gender Critical movement?

Is it "let women speak as long as they are gender critical"?

She is not being silenced. Why do you make these incredibly poor arguments ? (Not to mention endlessly repeating lies, presumably using the Goebbels technique).

Don’t worry about Emma, Marge. She’s doing fine with her Prada contract and her extremely rich bloke.

I agree headphones would have several issues - getting hold of the number that would be needed, inability for bystanders to be able to hear what's going on and be drawn in/be able to compare the reasonableness of what's being said with the TRA response, the dangers of having less awareness of what's going on otherwise, and also the risk of them being ripped off and damaged/destroyed by the protestors.

What I do wonder though is whether it would be possible to simultaneously SCREEN the text of the speeches somehow? A big screen or just one of those subtitle things like they have at theatres sometimes, with the rolling text of the speeches (could be input beforehand or use auto captioning, though that sometimes can be a bit dodgy!) would be pretty hard for the protesters to block out if it was put high enough and well enough protected (though they'd probably try to throw stuff), would make it easy for everyone to follow (especially if nice big text readable from a fair distance) and to draw in passers-by, would not be possible to drown out, and would also be good for people with hearing issues - not sure how easy it would be to do, but maybe worth considering?

This as well.

Emma has also had snide comments about her "privilege" or her bloke as if that somehow makes her less qualified to have an opinion.

I haven't heard any such comments made about JK Rowling from GC's however, who is a lot more wealthy and vocal on this topic.

Plus Emms speaks bilge so…

MrsMidClegs · 20/09/2022 13:14

I'd like to be able to keep an ear out for those thugs creeping up from behind and sexually assaulting me - as happened on Sunday (not me, someone else).

And to be able hear the smoke bombs.

It's an interesting idea though. I know it was much easier to hear the speeches via the livestream than being at the back of the crowd. I think I would take a pair of earplugs next time - pop one in and participate both online and in person.

LiesDoNotBecomeUs · 20/09/2022 13:34

I like the earphones idea but agree that you need an ear free to keep alert in a crowd that includes blatent sex-offenders (They seem so comfortable -entitled even- amongst such anti-women protesters. The masks and the intimidating behaviour seem to work well for them.)

I was watching the TRA protesters and did wonder if any of them were actually protesting in support of anyone. Do you think they could articulate anything about any rights trans-people lack? They looked to be enjoying the sort of violence that used to be seen at football matches.

Emma's privilege is commented on because she is promoting the destruction of female sex based rights which will hit less privileged and vulnerable women harder. Emma is very unlikely to need the services affected because of her privilege.
JKR wants to protect those rights despite her privilege.

I think that's a good idea.

The main thing that the protesters try to do is drown the women out. They want people not to hear them. Not to understand. Not to grasp the issue.

Having even auto generated captions would stymie that immediately.

JustGotHere · 21/09/2022 15:57

How about a huge projection of live captions?

JustGotHere · 21/09/2022 16:01

Sorry for not reading the whole thread, I’m just so angry about this and other events. I just saw something on Twitter about WPUK deplatforming KJK because they assert she is a racist (?!) and I might spontaneously combust.

axolotlfloof · 21/09/2022 16:07

The principle of women speaking in public is important. Any woman can speak, anyone can listen.
It's fabulous, and if the TRAs want to show everyone who they really are all the better.
I honestly don't think any tech is necessary.
It would help if the police were more proactive but at least it was adequately policed.

DameMaud · 21/09/2022 16:08

Just put this question on another thread but think it's in the wrong talk section:
Kellie-Jay has just put out a short video about criticism of the event that has come after from feminists-. She doesn't say if this from Twitter or elsewhere- but something about criticising who was speaking at the mic.
Can anyone shed any light please?

Tallisker · 21/09/2022 23:56

I think there should be two massive screens, one with the women's words on, and one with the protesters' words on. So everything is there clearly for posterity Grin

ahagwearsapointybonnet · 22/09/2022 00:06

Oh yes, I do like that idea 😁😂

Datun · 22/09/2022 00:06

Yes!
