Can someone help me identify the video DS watched at school today?

DS (10) told me that today in school they watched a video about gender. My ears pricked up when he told me it had mermaids in. He also said it had diggers in it. The take home message appears to be 'there's no such thing as boys toys or girls toys' which is no bad thing, but I'm just concerned in case this has come from Mermaids, can anyone cast any light before I approach school?

Many thanks

Was it animated? Did it have real people in it? Were there any handouts? Which country in the UK are you?

I'll be honest, I've no idea, but I hope you find out. Fingers crossed it was something harmless and sensible.

I guess you could insist the school tell you/ share with you what it was....

Ask at school, there is no reason for them not to actively share content from their PSHE curriculum

Splash?

I think it's a book (I'm a primary school teacher and it rings a bell). I imagine the teacher didn't have the book, so found a video on YouTube of someone reading it. (Needs must) You might need to Google books for kids on this topic and I'm pretty sure you'll find it.

Ask the teacher tomorrow to email you the link and come back and tell us. It could be oily and Pop or any number of trans identifying children and young adults on You Tube. Mermaids have changed that tactics. I attended a webinar by them aimed at parents/carers of SEND children hosted by the charity Sunshine Support. They talked about gender expression instead of the usual sterotypes and said only the person knows they are trans. This seems to be their new push, if only the person knows they are trans then noone can question them and affirmation is the only route.

Our school has used the awful JammieDodger in the past (note to self to chase this up again with school). Jamie appears to be in a coercive relationship with their girlfriend so sad watching it, certainly not to be celebrated.

There's a book 'Julian is a Mermaid', which seems to have lesson plans.

They talked about gender expression instead of the usual sterotypes and said only the person knows they are trans.

Which is ridiculous if you think about it. How can they know? Without any frame of reference or definition, 'trans' could mean something different for every single person who claims to 'be trans'.

Just checked my notes from the webinar:
Gender identity is not defined by gender expression (what you wear, what you like ect.)
Gender identity is not defined by sex assigned at birth.
Is innate and internal
Is a sense of one's self
Is a feeling... 'I am'

So there is no reference. You are trans because you say you are.
