Reddit says that posts encouraging violence towards gender critical women and "cis" people have increased

"Hi all,
We all know that it’s a rubbish time at the moment for trans and non-binary people in the UK and on TransgenderUK, we see posts daily highlighting this.
But we have also seen an increase in comments and posts which mention violence towards CIS people and TERFS to the extremes of talking about obtaining Firearms to target people who are against trans rights.
Any sort of promotion of violence or calling for it is completely unacceptable. There are many things we as mods can do, from banning the user from the subreddit, reporting the post ourselves to Reddit to investigate and also reporting posts or comments to the police ourselves.
This is supposed to be a place where we offer each other support, answer questions, share good news and much much more. It’s not a place for calling for violence for people disagreeing with Trans rights or Trans issues.
From today, any post or comment that promotes violence, talks about violence towards Cis people or TERFS or calls for it will lead to the user being banned from this subreddit.
Each post like this will be judged and a ban won’t be issued till at least another mod looks at the post to be fair. The ban will then be reviewed 7 days later by another mod to see if it stands or the person given another chance.
In terms of transparency, we will be posting a breakdown of bans from the subreddit issued each month and what for so the community can see what we are doing.
We know there will be questions so please do either comment on this post or use Modmail.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and for understanding
The Mod Team"

Ban the posters. Simple as that.

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 26/08/2022 08:04

I agree with kitten

its obviously a step in the right direction but they shouldn’t be given a second chance

ShirleyPhallus · 26/08/2022 08:05

how predictable and depressing, but good Reddit is doing something

this is misleading though cos we all know it won’t actually be posts against TR, rather rights for women:

”target people who are against trans rights.”

WandaWomblesaurus · 26/08/2022 08:06

The responses run along the lines of "but it's self defence."
"We need to migrate."
"GC women want to eradicate us"
It's GC women who are "stirring the pot" and making these posts.

Honestly how thick can you get?

WandaWomblesaurus · 26/08/2022 08:11

I can't get the image of men wanting self defence classes to defend themselves from roving terf gangs of grannies.

Bit Monty Python.

The statement is very one sided in its expression, but fair in its content.

If they actually do ban/suspend people for expressing violence that's good right? It puts everyone in the discussion on the same level- no threats.

If it's unacceptable to shout random threats, then you are left with having to say something with content, I'd have thought.

"You're mean, die in a fire!", gets reduced to "You're mean!"

But we have seen witness evidence in court cases where trans people either themselves or other are expecting to be given leniency on threats because ‘they are fighting for their existence’.

People really think threats and violence is acceptable from this group. It is almost like some people forget who those threats are aimed at. Or just don’t consider them worthy of respect.

Wasn't it Reddit who deleted loads of non violent run of the mill feminism sub reddits and allowed some very questionable ones to stay?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/08/2022 08:58

Yes. Reddit is awful.

The, the gender critical subreddit was banned, while other dodgy ones remain.

It's good that Reddit are finally acknowledging this, but I'm not sure what difference it will make to the fully entrenched. It may well fuel their victimhood mentality. The problem is, they have been stoked up by being told their existence in under threat for the last few years. So they are on the defensive.

WandaWomblesaurus · 26/08/2022 09:50

They've been getting away with their "Kill all Cis" shit for a while. Kids say it in my daughter's school. I've seen it floated in WhatsApp groups amongst the girls.

The men fuelling all this just really hate women safeguarding their kids.

That is grim wanda

The top reply atm asks why they can't threaten violence when terfs threaten violence at them every day. I follow hundreds of GC women on Twitter, read here several times a day, read the trans UK sub regularly and read other platforms regularly, trans and GC, and have done for at least 8 years.

I have never, ever, seen a single threat of violence from a GC woman. Why do they think women want to be violent towards them? It's an astonishing twisting of reality that truly baffles me. They constantly tell each other that others are violent towards them, but never seem to read the actual source of this invented violence.

They seem to want to terrorise each other and keep themselves in a state of anxiety.

I like this part: ”In terms of transparency, we will be posting a breakdown of bans from the subreddit issued each month and what for so the community can see what we are doing.”

We should have that in here. Who even knows anymore how many brilliant women we’ve list over the years, and on what grounds?

Well put. I think this is exactly it. They want to keep themselves in a constant state of terror because then they feel they are the most victimised. It’s a race to the bottom. Very common in far left American politics.

With some of them, it's part of the thrill.

Yes. For some, stoking themselves up into an infuriated outrage is a kick.

I wonder if someone has had a word with Reddit about the legal ramifications of hosting threats of violence to women.

it's certainly a step in the right direction. Without threats of violence, and vitriol directed at women, more women (and men) would speak out.

Another clip to the wings of violent transactivism.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 26/08/2022 12:13

The same Reddit that bans actual lesbians from the actual lesbians sub for knowing what an actual lesbian is?

It's ok guys, carry on with your rape fantasy, incest, and peado subs, just tone these threats down for a bit, as people are starting to notice we're just a bunch of angry, entitled misogynists promoting violence against women....

KittyKlaws · 26/08/2022 12:44

I'm very cynical about this knowing Reddit. It has either come from 'on high' (maybe they want rid of it) or it is about optics only. This is after all a forum where pretty nasty porn and unpleasant subreddits about women are not just permissible but seen as a right.

It would be nice to be optimistic but I really can't see this as a genuine attempt to curb that violent rhetoric for anything other than PR reasons, particularly since quite a few of the people in multiple moderating teams are the same people responsible for that toxic Reddit atmosphere.

Exactly that is why I really doubt the sincerity of this.

Reddit is going to have to make a public show of cleaning itself up: www.redditinc.com/blog/reddit-announces-confidential-submission-of-draft-registration-statement-related-to-proposed-public-offering

picklemewalnuts · 26/08/2022 13:25

Might well be insincere. Still has to be followed through on.

The thing is, they interpret 'no I don't believe human's can change sex' as a violent threat. They think the natural response is telling someone to go die in a greasefire, or threatening to rape and kill someone. They are so wrapped up in their self image, and sense of victimhood that if someone doesn't agree it is a rejection and therefore seen as threatening to their ego. So ridiculous.

What exactly can you do with people like that, for whom the truth is so terrifying that they see it as a threat to be fought with violence? Logic and reason aren't helpful here, they are in a state of fear and defensiveness.

Although I suspect with some of them it's a false threat to excuse their horrible behaviour.

DarkDayforMN · 26/08/2022 15:50

That's not "Reddit" it's the mods of one subreddit for trans people (with 30K readers.) The mods aren't official representatives of Reddit, they are site users who set up the subreddit or volunteered to help run it.

They must have been getting some really bad comments, because normally TRAs turn a blind eye to threats of violence from their own.
