So it bloody should 'weigh on him'.

Golden bridges are all very well, but what did he think would happen?!

Thelnebriati · 24/08/2022 12:32

Politicians have no right to be that ignorant on life changing issues they vote on.

RoseslnTheHospital · 24/08/2022 12:35

Indeed it makes you wonder what effect he thought that the law would have, if not what actually then happened. I am beyond angry at ignorant thoughtless casually misogynist men.

Thelnebriati · 24/08/2022 12:42

I think politicians should get a sheet that explains both sides of the debate.

I've just had to explain to yet another man on Twitter that we don't just pee in toilets. I should start keeping score. I mean, presumably most of them have been in a relationship with a woman at some point so how are they still so ignorant of basic biological facts?

What about the public ?

What about the public ?

I understand this may be an overly literal response, but I'm going to say it anyway.

Elected politicians draw a salary from the public purse. It's supposed to fund their living costs so they can research their voting decisions without having to fit it in around working 40 hours elsewhere.

Artichokeleaves · 24/08/2022 19:44

Good, I am glad it cost him sleep. It bloody well should do.

I wish I could find a quote I keep thinking of with this: that in the shadows behind the noble man with the high principles above it all, slinks the axman with blood on his blade.

He shared an emotional account that affected him so deeply that all he did was abstain from voting on that measure. He didn't oppose it.

He seems to have rallied, though. Yesterday he voted to support a new anti abortion bill.

What an arse

I was on another discussion board and several men thought later abortions mostly happened because of women changing their minds. It was unbelievable. They also didn't realise how long it can take to become aware of pregnancy.

Mummyoflittledragon · 01/09/2022 12:09

I’ve also read comments from women saying some men think we can just hold our period in. This is the sort of stuff, which should be taught at school!

Flatmountains · 02/09/2022 10:04

@Mummyoflittledragon how would you teach it at school? I thought everyone wanted girls to have separate lessons about periods because boys are such babies about them.

You can still teach boys about periods with separate lessons for boys and girls. Nothing stopping anyone from talking to a boys group about periods.

And there might be transboys who need the information that haven't been included in the girls session 🙄!!!!!

Boxowine · 03/09/2022 20:26

Actually, in the US, there is a great deal in terms of legislation and policy that prevents boys being taught about menstruation. Either alongside girls or separately. Sex Ed and even reproductive biology are sometimes not taught in schools at all. This is one reason why the abortion debate is so frustrating. A large segment of our population is ignorant as to how female reproductive systems work.

As a for instance, when I was in high school I took an advanced level physiology class. This included dissecting a cat. We were required to memorize and diagram all of the bones, muscles, organs etc. Except for anything to do with the reproductive system. We couldn't cover that chapter either. Be ause that was considered to be sex ed. This was in a good school in a liberal area. So you can't have any expectations that any of these legislators fully understand pregnancy.
