Freedom In Thought

I watched the ‘Emily’ (Brontë) trailer this morning, and in it Emily and a male associate scream ‘Freedom in thought!’ joyfully and rebelliously across the moors.

Regardless of the accuracy or not of this phrase as connected to Emily herself, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it all day.

Partly I’ve been thinking about the long suppression of women’s right to pursue equity of opportunity and then be recognised for their achievements, such as Emily publishing initially under a male name, and the patronising commentary about her genius (‘She should have been a man’ - see WikiPedia for reference).

But this phrase strongly resonates with me as I try to make my own small contributions to subverting the tactics of the gender ideology movement, it’s compelled speech, denial of science and material reality, appropriation of language and meaning.

I know I’m not making an original point here, the 1984 parallels have been drawn for years. But something about a woman (as compared to the male protagonist in 1984) screaming ‘freedom in thought!’ at a time when we are being demanded to not have freedom in thought, to think as others would prefer we think, struck a cord with me today.
