“Pointe” Magazine: it’s not ok for puberty to be put on hold…

I’m genuinely unsure as to whether “Pointe” are stealth!TERF; unwitting!TERF; or quite what’s going on with their tweet (& article) about the importance of going through puberty for your health (& specifically how that relates to ballet).

I’ve attached a screenshot of the tweet, the text of which reads:
It’s not okay for puberty and the things it brings (like your period) to be put on hold. While these hormones may be vilified for increasing the curves of your body and altering your moods, they are key determinants in your future health and lifestyle
With a hyperlink to the article Delayed Puberty: Why Not Getting Your Period is a Problem.

This is of course not explicitly about the deliberate suppression of puberty with blockers. But this language is new. Girls have been destroying their bodies for dance for literal centuries. Eating disorders have been rife in vocational schools (& at vocational training opportunities, whether residentials or associate programmes) & companies for years. Even encouraged in some times & places.

It’s a very deliberate use of language though - “putting puberty on hold” is now part of a very specific conversation. So I’d really like to know what’s going on/what’s prompted the article.

(NB I use “TERF” above as that’s one of the more polite things they risk being accused of for daring to suggest puberty is important…)

I suspect puberty blockers are also tempting for girls who want to look like pre-pubescent girls, as well as those that want to look like pre-pubescent boys. Ballet doesn't exactly welcome a womanly body, so I suspect it's a parallel issue/conversation rather than about identity.

i looked up the whole article and think it was genuinely focussed on delayed puberty in dancers resulting from undernourishment and eating disorders when they are expending so much energy. So not ‘terfy’ but interesting anyway.

You could be right. Weren’t some famous child gymnasts given puberty blockers?

Judy Garland had her breasts bound for The Wizard of Oz. Probably they’d have blocked her puberty if they could have.
