In light of Allison's win aibu to approach my employer and ask them to rethink their "we are Stonewall champions" relationship?

Just the title really.

Worked for a city council since 2019. Love my job but have Always hated the fact they are a woke council.
Today's win along with Maya's and the mass Stonewall exudes has made me think I need to mention this relationship with Stonewall may not be the best....we have a poor history...think Jimmy Saville....West Yorkshire Police.

Am I committing career suicide or is now the right time to be brave?

*disclaimer I would have put this in AIBU as I wanted the voting option but they would just move it here anyway.

I would pitch it more broadly than that. Things you might mention include:
It's expensive
Government departments are pulling away and advising others to
Private companies are pulling away
The advice is not legally correct leading to problems for the members (Reindorf report as well as Allison)
Likely to alienate LGB employees
Likely to alienate GC employees
But yes absolutely let them know your concerns

My employer left SW a while ago, but the legacy remains.

I plan to open up a broader conversation, pointing out the dangers of them basing internal (and external) policies and language very clearly on gender ideology.

The courts are clear genderism and gender criticism are both valid beliefs (actually only the gender critical view has a judgement that it is WORIADS). I plan to ask open questions about how they plan to respond to the judgement.

Will the style guide continue to talk about assigned at birth, and gay meaning same gender not sex attraction?

Will we still periodically be encouraged to add pronouns to our e mails?

How will our approach to inclusiveness change to include gender critical views?

I will point out that my employer adopting language and policies clearly based on gender ideology, is no different to basing them clearly on Christian or Islamic ideology. It is not appropriate in the work place. And me not believing in gender ideology does not make me transphobic, any more than not believing in Allah makes me Islamophobic.

It has to be everything in, or everything out. I favour the latter. Lets go back to bringing our professional selves to work and leave everything else at home.

I haven't looked into it but Sex Matters appears to be offering to write to companies outlining the problems with Stonewall.
While it would probably land more meaningfully coming from an individual, it's an option.

Your employer is almost certainly looking to save money. Leaving Stonewall Champions would help.

Could you send the sex matters summary to your finance director?

achillestoes · 28/07/2022 08:13

Maybe pose the question, in light of the cost of living crisis and its inevitable impact on council finances (never not under pressure), as well as the multiple controversies in which Stonewall has, through its own deliberate choices, become enmeshed, is it time to re-evaluate our relationship with this organisation, and ask what we actually get for our investment of public money?

I think it's a good time to raise it. If they've any cop on at all they'll be thinking it anyway.

Likely to alienate LGB employees

I'd push this angle strongly.

Advocate a different approach to LGBT issues, which does not involve Stonewall.
