North Lanarkshire sticks in my memory as a council that's been discussed here in the past. Anyone remember? Gender neutral toilets in all schools, by any chance?

Anyway, this is a 27yo male SNP councillor Jordan Linden who is reported to have made unwanted advances towards a male teenager at a party in Dundee in September 2019. 'The councillor was described as being "very drunk" at the time of the incident, which is said to have happened in a flat after the city's annual Pride parade.' The SNP HQ knew about the allegation but didn't apparently see that as an obstacle to becoming leader of the council, even though this was the second time he'd had to be investigated after a claim of sexual harassment.

Sleazy.

I'm beginning to wonder if certain members of the SNP understand that it doesn't stand for Sleaze, Notoriety and P*s

It's really starting to be a pattern eh ?

Another one? How many is that, now?

RandomlyThrownTogether · 28/07/2022 10:34

Patrick Grady

was found to have made a sexual advance towards a 19 yo male colleague at a social event in 2016

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-61811605

Derek Mackay (former finance secretary)

'admitted behaving "foolishly" by messaging a 16-year-old boy on social media.'

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-56463605

Mark McDonald (former minister for childcare and early years)

'sent a text message to a woman referencing a sex act.

The Commissioner for Ethical Standards in Public Life concluded that the case amounted to sexual harassment.'

Alex Salmond was of course accused of various incidents of sexual misconduct, but cleared of all charges. That case is in itself massively politically murky.

27 and leader of the council? How does that happen?

zanahoria · 30/07/2022 09:37

The SNP has such a dominant position in Scotland that it is attracting chancers who just want power and other assorted scumbags

Rightsraptor · 30/07/2022 09:51

I am also wondering how a 27 yo gets to be leader of a council. Far too young.

Maybe nobody else wanted the position, or perhaps the council wanted to show how modern & relevant they were.

Rightsraptor · 29/02/2024 20:39

I'm not at all sure being seen as a 'rising star' in the SNP is necessarily a good thing ...

Chersfrozenface · 26/03/2026 18:00

Updating once again because Jordan Linden has been found guilty. Sentencing deferred until 5 May for reports.

Labour. 28.
He ran Middleton town centre into decay before being granted the leadership.

No real world experience of business.

A real prince.

It's almost like it's, any opportunity to twist the knife. When you invite him, you know perfectly well the signal it sends.

Of course he was.

'Scottish Liberal Democrat deputy leader Wendy Chamberlain MP commented: “This is shocking. The SNP have very serious questions to answer.

“Scandal after scandal is surfacing at the very heart of a rotten SNP leadership whose first instinct and priority seems to always be to protect the party and reputations of senior figures.”'

Indeed.

Very good analysis of all this from Malcolm Clark on his substack
