Eddie Izzard marks Women in War school event

Not a single woman could be found to head up this event to celebrate women in war, so this Bournemouth school invite Eddie Izzard - in his female guise presumably - to do the job.

I'm guessing women made no contribution to WW2 whatsoever, bet it was blokes all along, women were probably too busy fretting.

Gosh weren’t they lucky that it coincided with a day when Eddie was (presumably) in ‘girl mode’.

KittenKong · 16/07/2022 23:00

Women, war

what does this person have to bring to either discussion?

ErrolTheDragon · 16/07/2022 23:06

Both Eddie and Sarah share a keen interest in the Second World War, with Eddie having starred in a number of films set in the era, including the 2008 film Valkyrie.

I'm struggling to make a connection between that role (or any other film EI has been in) and 'Women in War'.

Neverplayleapfrogwithaunicorn · 16/07/2022 23:08

As the granddaughter of an Auxiliary Territorial Service officer... I'm seething on behalf of all the women who went to war.

Quite

Cookingutensil · 16/07/2022 23:09

Don't know KittenKong, but I'm going to dress up as the soldier from YMCA and see if my local primary are interested in my services on remembrance day.

I know fuck all about war or history, but who cares, I'll be fabulous 🥰😙

If Eddie wakes up in "boy mode" will Eddie have to cancel?

EaselArt · 16/07/2022 23:12

I think Eddie is trolling us. Fucking arsehole.

Johnnysgirl · 16/07/2022 23:13

Christ, what a mockery of the whole bloody thing 🙄. Slap on a bit of lippy, and hey! it's fine, Eddie's being a girl today.

SteveHarringtonsChestHair · 16/07/2022 23:36

On the plus side the article doesn’t reference Eddie as a woman or call Eddie she or her throughout.
It’s cleverly worded so that pronouns are not used at all.

On the minus side an ethics class discussing gender and war misses the point that gender is irrelevant in war, sex is relevant.

You mean the movie where Eddie played a male German general?

NewPotatoSalad · 17/07/2022 01:55

It was trans women who won the Second World War, you transphobes!!

Sloebluewalls · 17/07/2022 02:29

This is awful. Incredibly disrespectful to actual women who fought the war. Clearly highlights a school Indoctrinated with gender ideology, willing to gaslight pupils into thinking blokes can simply identify as women. Had it been themed men in war I would’ve have blinked at EI involvement.

Chillinoncarneisunderrated · 17/07/2022 02:33

As the granddaughter of a woman who risked getting herself blown up everyday her and her sister worked in a munitions factory during WW2, I'm bloody raging. I'm not far from Bournemouth as well. Still not as glam as Eddie though eh ?

Chillinoncarneisunderrated · 17/07/2022 02:43

My husband's nan drove a firetruck and put fires out during the bombing! I'm sure he could have identified as a woman that day too. Do not see why Eddie was there to be honest or am I missing something ?

Cookingutensil · 17/07/2022 02:48

Chilli, as women, I know many of us honour those who have gone before us 🙏

...without a comedy breast in sight.
I wish the children in Bournemouth (girls especially), had this opportunity.

Just reread Operation Mincemeat and one of the senior intelligence operatives was a cross dresser, possibly trans by a modern definition. Trans People in War would be an interesting topic for Eddie to be involved with. Though I note that Eddie tends to avoid defining herself at all these days, including as trans. Dont think she ever liked being categorised.

I wonder if Eddie has an agent who could advise on not being deliberately offensive. Would be nice.

DirtyDuchess · 17/07/2022 07:18

Perhaps he's going to Chanel Corporal Klinger from MASH

Clymene · 17/07/2022 08:09

I'm just going to say on behalf of women and girls past and present - fuck off Eddie

Sloebluewalls · 17/07/2022 08:40

i bet the school thinks it’s being clever and modern.

I do wonder st the thought process that went into this.

“so we are going to celebrate women in war! So obviously we can’t… how can we get…”

partystress · 17/07/2022 09:00

EI could have done so much to help young people in particular resist stereotypes and conformity. Saw him several times in the 80s and loved his comedy and his ‘these are not women’s clothes’ line.

Now I am just deeply disappointed by Eddie. May no longer be a he, but sure does fit the mould of those males who don’t give two hoots for the rights or feelings of women and girls.

Handsoffmyrights · 17/07/2022 09:35

How disrespectful. He's sticking it up (two fingers, of course) to all the women who played a huge part in the war.
Were those adult human females not stunning or brave enough for the school, I wonder?

theghostwriter · 17/07/2022 09:50

It's such a bad message to girls. The only time women have any role to play is if they're really men.

Sloebluewalls · 17/07/2022 10:54

Women's experiences of war receive little recognition as it is, so strange a biological male was chosen to forefront this woman centred event.
