AIBU for thinking John Fury ' s statement against Tommy Fury' s opponent is the probably vilest statement made in sport against women

He insisted that after his son beat Paul, he would "bend his girlfriend over and do her like a dog,"

I think you've read a story in a tat paper with zero context and are spiraling in moral outrage. Do a bit of googling and see what was said about Molly first but that absolute waste of a man infact just look up Jake Paul in general he's a cretin.
Obviously doesn't make anyone speaking like that about a woman ok, but it was goaded out of him for public effect and it definitely worked didn't it.
Many many much more vile things have been said about women daily infact, so while we can spend our time in faux outrage about a bunch of adrenaline fuelled fighters we need to be more focused on educating our boys and men about bullying/misogyny/personal boundaries. Because all it takes is one little slimy weasel to bring out the worst in us, when wound up

Complaining a Tyson Fury program was misogynistic is like saying you watched Jeremy Kyle and don't think he was helping people at all.

Boxing aren't going to censure them because the fake drama gets viewers. The way to deal with these people is to ignore them, if everyone did that the world would be a better place.

EsmaCannonball · 16/07/2022 10:56

Posters are having a go at the OP for rising to clickbait, but if threatening to rape a woman is so normalised in boxing that the response is, 'Well, what did you expect from these people?' or, 'It's just for hype,' or 'Silly you, rising to the bait!' then it proves how women are expected to absorb constant hostile and demeaning messaging but not to react to it, lest they be seen as angry or hysterical or silly.

Of course women get that. Of course it's shit but in this case only it's better to ignore it because public opprobrium hasn't changed the mirror, boxing or the Furys.

It's not having a go to point that out.

MorrisZapp · 16/07/2022 12:02

That's utterly, utterly vile. And possibly illegal?

Floralnomad · 16/07/2022 12:05

This is old news from before the first fight was cancelled . John Fury is an odious man and his sons aren’t much better but nothing will be done about them / their language .

StEthelburgaRose · 16/07/2022 12:10

He also gouged a man's eye out. Sounds like a lovely man.

achillestoes · 16/07/2022 14:37

I don’t think we should ignore it at all. It’s revolting, dehumanising and far too common.

I don't think it should be ignored. I roll my eyes at the outrage over stuff like the "beach body ready" advert. It was just stupid and patently a trip to the beach will show putting a swimsuit on = beach body ready.

This is far nastier and should be called out. Isn't that what the EE "not her problem" ad is about?
