Is this odd?

I really struggle with this. I'm not sure I would want peer support as a new mum from a volunteer who had male genitalia but who was included according to their definition?

Is this odd?

But surely a person with male genitalia wouldn't be included, according to their definition? Presumably what they are trying to do by saying 'people who menstruate' etc is exclude transwomen but include transmen, who are biologically female? Not that I'm defending all this offensive 'people with a cervix' bollocks. They should just be able to say 'women' and thereby automatically exclude anyone who is male, regardless of how they 'identify'.

Nellodee · 02/07/2022 18:17

That's the intent, but it does say trans people are welcome. Only an arsenals would purposefully misinterpret the intent, but there are arseholes around. Hopeful not too many though. Twitter odds representative.

RoseslnTheHospital · 02/07/2022 18:19

That last bullet point (any one who is interested...) leaves this organisation open to anyone male to attend?

Nellodee · 02/07/2022 18:22

Canned autocarrot. I swear I have only had two sips of wine.

WehIstMir · 02/07/2022 18:27

Surely this includes transmen?

Plasmodesmata · 02/07/2022 19:14

Anyone can go, see last point in the list.

WhiteFire · 02/07/2022 19:44

It just ends up being a load of word salad, and puts you off looking any further into it. It is the absolute effort at not saying woman which is so tiring.

WhiteFire · 02/07/2022 19:49

For anyone who doesn't want to believe that the word woman is being erased there it is in black and white.

Trans ✔
Non-binary ✔

Woman ❌❌❌

myplace · 02/07/2022 19:50

It does allow anyone who is interested to go.

I'm pretty sure, though, that the care they've taken to list all possible physical descriptors of female body experiences is to include transmen, not transwomen. It also suggest they've a firm grip on what a woman is, even the women who prefer to be called men.

I think volunteers would have to have experienced some of the life events they describe. Ergo, not male born.

Metabigot · 02/07/2022 19:52

I'm heartened to see that the word 'mum' still seems to be safe. For now.

PearlClutch · 02/07/2022 20:54

Great to see us defined by our body parts there, and then the whole place flung open to anyone with an interest - presumably of any kind at all.

ErrolTheDragon · 02/07/2022 21:08

I'm not sure I'd feel very safe in an organisation which 'knows' something that is objectively untrue. Much like I tend to distrust religious orgs.

Clymene · 02/07/2022 21:14

Women who no longer have uteruses don't have periods but they do experience menopause.

They aren't included in the list.

Plasmodesmata · 02/07/2022 22:19

I suppose if anyone can go it's not special, is it. If it isn't special, more chance of just being the uterussy type people?

TheLassWiADelicateAir · 03/07/2022 02:12

What's it for?

I have a vagina, I have given birth and I'm post- menopausal. What has this got to offer me?

clearly they sort of mean all women / all persons of the female sex regardless of your gender identity if you have one. But yes I think the sort of chapess who identifies as she who must be obeyed would certainly feel entitled to wander in and tell everyone what they're doing wrong with that wording.

picklemewalnuts · 03/07/2022 16:02

It would be a shame to boycott something that is clearly trying to offer support to women undergoing uniquely female experiences.

It seems clear to me they want to ensure transwomen can join, along with women of every age and experience. A supportive environment for women, by women, sounds like a good place to be.

It also welcomes transmen because they will also be experiencing many of the same things.
