Interesting... New website is collecting stories from parents, teachers and pupils who have concerns about RSE teaching and resources - and about attitudes in schools which discriminate against those with GC views. freetospeak.co.uk

Good, more sunlight. My DH was talking to someone working at the site he's been at this week and the guy's 8yo had come home asking what oral and anal sex were following an RSE lesson at school. Surprisingly DH had actually listened to some of what I've told him about this issue and recommended SSA Shock

It's coming up more and more often in conversations isn't it? Hope it's not too late to turn the tide.

The institutional stuff will take time but the public tide is definitely turning and that has to happen first imo. This shit was only ever going to fly while no one was talking about it, now people are talking the house of cards is collapsing slowly but surely.

I don't understand why there isn't a standard government pshe programme set for all schools to teach.

It's not like the geography teacher has to hire in an outside unlicensed company for the curriculum.

My son, 9, came home white as a sheet on the day he was taught what rape is.

Well done to 'Clare', if she is here, for all her work & persistence.

It's all outrageous, none of this should be happening to our children.

BlueMumDays · 02/07/2022 08:11

I've been really impressed with the way my kids' school has been teaching rse. Very matter of fact and positive about different types of families, lots of "you don't have to conform to stereotypes" but little specific reference to trans.

But my 8yo came home yesterday saying he'd been learning about "bisexual". And this is where boundaries get blurred. I absolutely support teaching children about LGB people and families. But it's odd to use the word "bisexual" before the children have even been taught the word "sexual".

This isn't me coming for LGB families. It's just an example of slightly different boundaries being applied when it comes to anything with a rainbow on it.

this thread just highlights how the freetosepeak website is needed.

the concept of age appropriate appears to have been thrown out of the window - 8 year olds do not need to know about bisexuality

This looks like Everyone's Invited but for RSE. Brilliant idea.
