Weekday ad showing breast binders

I have had an email ad from Weekday (clothing company). I buy the odd thing from them, and stuff for teenage dd.
Their latest ad is about supporting the “Queer Community” . With photographs, some completely fine, but others showing a trans person with mastectomy scars, and a woman with her breasts taped down, which is the one I found most disturbing.
To sell clothes !
Not sure how to respond to it. Haven’t had a chance yet to show dd and ask her for her thoughts.

Tell them to stop exploiting young women for clicks.

You can complain, and please do, I think we all should, to the advertising standards authority
www.asa.org.uk/make-a-complaint.html
this is utterly revolting and completely irresponsible. I’ll be complaining too. Anyone else?! Please complain too, if you would like to.

I will complain yes.
So depressing seeing this shit . I have teenage daughters, I don’t want people pushing this on them to flog bloody sweatshirts.

The fashion industry loves the 'trans' look. It has never liked women with curvy, womanly bodies, demanding female models barely eat to be employable (I had friends in the business) and the trans look now gives them another route to get the feminine face - big eyes, small nose, full lips - on a slim, flat chested boyish body.

stillsmilingtoday · 24/06/2022 09:47

OP I’m trying to complain but the Asa website requests that the ‘platform’ used is filled in (gives a drop down list with Alibi, all4, etc) - any idea which platform to choose? I’m not sure since I didn’t receive the original ad - which platform is relevant?

I have looked on the weekday website since I felt I should be fully informed before making a complaint and couldn’t see any similar photos. Does this mean that people only see them or they are on a mailing list?

So worrying using this to attract attention/ connection with youngsters, do the advertisers not think about where it can lead to? I was always so liberal and can’t believe that I’ve become a hand-wringing parent and if my kids want to create their own unique identity as they grow older I am all for it, but I worry that this is literally being advertised to teens as a cool aesthetic when it has such risky medical and psychological ramifications.

Thanks

This is more of the email.
There are T shirts connected with this, not with that image on though. The proceeds impart go to “Civil Rights Defenders” whatever that might mean.

You can see it all on the main website if you look at the women’s section, and then “get the latest” .

what is the complaint about - selling items for trans people? Can you imagine how that will sound?

Toseland · 24/06/2022 13:17

Why is the photo of the taped woman taken in front of train tracks?

They don’t sell items for transpeople.
They sell clothes.
would it be ok for them to use breast ironing to sell clothes ?

And the corset on the other picture, so famously good for your ribcage and internal organs. We learned at school about Victorian women with damaged bodies from the wasp waist fashion - is that all forgotten and cool now too?

IvyTwines · 24/06/2022 14:02

If people were footbinding now, it'd be celebrated, wouldn't it?
