via Sex Matters. WORIADS = Worthy of Respect In A Democratic Society and refers to the successful appeal of the Judge Tayler ruling that Maya Forstater's beliefs were NWORIADS.
Happy WORIADS Day! It’s now exactly a year since Maya Forstater got her judgment saying that gender-critical views are worthy of respect in a democratic society.
That judgment had many implications. People with gender-critical views:
—are protected against harassment
—can’t be refused employment because of views expressed online
—can’t be forced to comply with policies that require belief in gender ideology, such as “stating their pronouns”
—can challenge employers, schools and universities if they don’t providing changing, washing or toilet facilities that offer adequate privacy from members of the opposite sex.
Many people have told us that the judgment has made them more confident about speaking up about why sex matters and have got employers to de-escalate complaints.
Cracks are opening up in the wall of silence and fear around sex and gender. People in healthcare, social work, charities, the arts and business are building networks and challenging their institutions together. There are employment tribunal cases ongoing.
But there’s still more change needed!
Attitudes need to change in workplaces, schools, universities, colleges. Every police force, government department and youth organisation needs to understand that it must not harass, bully or discriminate against people who say that sex matters.
We need legal education and cultural change as well as legal cases
So to mark WORIADS day we’re starting a campaign to help people understand their rights and to educate employers.
