What made you change your mind?

There have been many discussions on MN with supporters of trans ideology. For thoughtful, engaged posters, the main sticking points appear to be TWAW and Tw are at greater danger/risk of suicide. Posters appear to be deeply committed to these beliefs regardless of the lack of supporting evidence.

It seems to me that there is a parallel here with people deeply committed to religious beliefs, such as life after death. Beliefs that inform their conduct and without which they cannot consider themselves to be ‘good people’.

We used to describe the process of becoming gender critical in mountaineering terms (now banned) but for some people is this perhaps more of a conversion? From believer to atheist.

Is this meaningful to you? In terms of a change in your beliefs, what made you change your mind?

I remember the first rumblings of the whole issue being discussed on here. I was puzzled at first, tbh hadn't given it much thought. My experience of trans people was basically those on TV, hayley cropper and Jackie from Paddington Green. I slowly realised that the polite treating of trans women as women as a courtesy was not enough, that twaw was now a thing.

The issue intruded into my life spectacularly when dd suddenly declared herself trans, almost at the same time a bf I had at the time turned out to be a very abusive cross dresser (that was a punch in the gut). I was a bit shell-shocked and did immense amounts of reading and thinking. I just have to keep my gob shut about most things, most of the time.

^And there we have it.

The requirement that all actual females indulge Emily in this belief by sacrificing themselves and their reality rather than Emily having to face a fact that Emily does not like.

What makes Emily so very special that Emily gets to demand this service from females? And females must do what Emily wants and put Emily first and abandon their careers, ambitions, desires, time and money and decades of work to serve Emily's interests instead of their own?

It's sex. It's obviously, blatantly, sex. Emily is Emilyself using sex based thinking to enforce this.^

Just a tiny, tiny tweak of Artichoke's excellent words., which clarifies the male rights entitlement of the situation, as demonstrated by Emily's invasion of and complete lack of identification with.

I never really believed it. I might have said twaw once, when I was first reading what JKR said and wanted to disagree with what the TRAs were doing but didn't want to seem transphobic! But I meant in a broad social sense not literally. I got told to educate mself and the more I read the more I realised there are many problems with gender ideology
