Hello everyone - we have now created a blocklist of transphobic people in the publishing industry. It will probably need to be regularly updated, but we hope that it can provide more safety to the people who need it. DM us if you'd like a copy.

The accounts on the list are people who have liked, retweeted or followed transphobic posts/accounts aimed at people in the publishing industry in the past week. If you believe that we've made a mistake somewhere, feel free to tell us.

The people on the list range from small, unpublished authors to popular writers and people who work for publishing houses with large followings. The list is currently 7 pages long.

However, in newer Bookseller news: a press release today announcing that Juno Dawson is headlining the Primadonna festival, and will be, alongside Zoe Howe,
exploring 'the power of the witch figure and the legacy of witchtrials on contemporary culture and iconography'.

Pretty sure there are specific rules in data protection law about creating Nolists of people - what used to be called blacklists. Hope someone on the list has complained to the ICO (Information Commissioner)

I wonder how many on the banned list are women (the cunty kind) and how many want us banned are men? And, isn't it strange that no one wants violent porn banned?

Someone should report it to the Information Commissioner. There was a similar list of workers who were engaged in strikes/always off sick/trouble markers doing the rounds in one industry sector and those involved had severe penalties imposed for breach of data protection legislation. The ICO ought without fear or favour to enforce data protection law and this is probably special category/sensitive data too so even worse.

It’s interesting how they’re referring to persecution but it’s the people on the other side who are having to remain anonymous, shamed and accept being referred to as terfs, nazis, transphobes etc by people in publishing.

They refer themselves in this letter to award winners. The SOA Chair herself makes her views very clear. I’m wondering where they feel the persecution actually is. We all know who needs to keep quiet in this for fear of recrimination and it’s not them.

Well, that's true enough.

But having read both opinions, I think the logical argument for division by sex stands up better than the one for division by gender.

I'm reminded that the Letter of Verbose Condemnation was linked to Penguin.

Someone in publishing, who proudly displayed her status as some form of Penguin employee in her twitter bio, was denouncing Gillian Philip this week and calling on all her friends to unfollow Gillian.

Penguin seem problematic.

The problem with blocking all those "transphobic" people in the publishing world is that you simply can't find an editor when you need one

She's putting up a good fight against it though, it might be worth your connecting with her. Thanks for the advice Racquelos. I am actually so scared of going back on social media tbh. My (adult )children have have suggested that they do it for me, so I can "peddle my wares" so to speak and get our songs out there but I just wanna play music , you know ? Can't be arse with the hassle ? 🤣 I used to be in a all woman band years ago and basically got disowned by them as they have reformed and are totally using pronouns now and into all this gender ideology stuff - we are into our 50's and I won't do it ! I also have a day job that this could impact so I am mindful of that . I wish men and their fetishes would just go to a room quietly please and leave us women out of it.

Calling it a 'blocklist' is a tell. Presumably they aren't using 'blacklist' because they think the word 'black' in that context has racist connotations?

A blacklist is something the bosses do to the workers. Its illegal in the UK for a company to use a blacklist, but only in the context of trade union activity. So that need updating. I guess it could apply to members of the new women's unions?
