Writing to your MP

I've been thinking for some time about writing to my MP about gender ideology.

The trouble is, there are so many aspects to it. If I wrote a letter about all the things which concern me, it would be very long, and probably have less impact.

What is the best approach here? Focusing on one issue?

The most important thing to me personally is single sex spaces and sports, but perhaps trans healthcare for young people is more topical given the current debate around the conversion therapy ban.

For context, my MP is Jeremy Hunt. I don't think he is TWAW, but some of the Stonewalling of the NHS will have happened on his watch.

Thanks.

Hi I've been thinking about this a lot lately and been reading all of Stella Creasy's recent tweets.

I'm afraid that in this matter, people (usually women) who have looked into it appear "fanatical" to people who haven't and are just spouting the be kind stuff. Because theres just so many ways that gender ideology is harmful to different sections of society, that listing them all with explanations takes ages.

So I reckon, tactically speaking, the best way to be as persuasive as possible is to stick to one issue AND get other constituents to write at the same time about the other issues. One issue per correspondent. That way the MP has to cover all the issues as he replies to you all individually...surely...right?

Yes, agree, stick to one issue to begin with. Health/NHS/wards seems like a relevant point. Locally relevant is even better. As is personal.

Yes, that is my concern. I don't want to appear fanatical.

It's quite hard to find information about Jeremy Hunt's views on this issue - I can't seem to find anything about how he has voted on trans issues, for example - but I think it's unlikely that he is completely Stonewalled, and he will certainly retain his seat and still be in Parliament after the next election, so I feel it is worth raising this with him.

I think the conversion therapy issue may be the right angle to take, as obviously he will be knowledgeable about the healthcare system.

Good plan - that's relevant and timely. If you have children, it will potentially impact on them.

I don't live in the UK, so UK policy in this area won't have a direct impact on my kids, but the UK is the only country where I have the right to vote, so...
