Waterstones and publishing

I know that childrens publishing is captured but the focus on LGBT for children in every Waterstones is quite striking. Today I looked at a book which celebrated the joy of Jazz Jennings when they were told at 3 that they were transgender. Jazz is now a strong independent woman. No mention of the mental health issues, the delay to going to university, the multiple serious complications from surgery.
The resources at the back of this book for children include websites which do not appear to be aimed at children, and which link to a range of content and chat rooms for trans children and trans adults. Of course the rainbow book is 3 clicks away from posts about nullification surgery.

Neutrois.com was one of the recommended resources in the book, which linked to non-binary wiki, with content on binding and tucking, and Aven, which has forum posts on nullification surgery and the having-it-all surgery.

I know the publisher would say that the resources at the back of the children's book are for their adults but I just don't see how it is appropriate.

"Neutrois"
"Someone who identifies as non-gendered and seeks to lose the major physical signifiers that indicate gender to others"

What? What physical signifiers indicate gender? It's a feeling that's nothing to do with which body you are in. They need to remove this transphobic material.

(Can't read much of the rest as MN still hasn't sorted out the image problem).

Young adult publishing is well and truly captured, yes. But have you been in every Waterstones @Timefortea4? Because I’m familiar with a couple of branches and they don’t have ‘LGBT+’ sections for young adults (or even adults) - some books yes, but nothing like this display. Which I agree is a bit disturbing.

It sounds like your Waterstones is being run by a disciple of the church of gender identity, OP. If others aren't like this then I guess each shop manager has a lot of leeway in choosing displays etc. Maybe a word with Waterstones head office is in order.

They seem to be running these shops as franchises. I’ll be treating them as such from now on and not shopping in stores that promote transition to kids. Some teenagers are gay or bisexual and there’s no problem with that. Some are gender non-conforming and no problem either. But making kids think ‘gender nullification surgery’ is desirable or that it might not have serious long-term negative impacts on their lives is just wrong.
