Rape culture in Westminster

Watching GMB this morning. They were talking about the alleged rape by a Tory MP. A guest speaker (can’t remember her name - she is Scottish) said the rape culture in Westminster is increasing (Against women and also young men) as is alcohol and drugs. Don’t even know why I am posting this. But what the fuck is going on in the very place that the people we assume to lead by example (I know, I know) and nothing is being done. Why haven’t any decent MP (assuming there is one!) blown the whistle?
it was just the blase way this guest speaker said it. And that it is getting worse. Even the male guest speaker (can’t remember his name either) agreed with her. Just needed to rant.

Did she say anything more? "Rape culture" is a pretty nebulous term, what did she mean materially?

Exactly.

I'm suspicious of this whole trend towards appending the word "culture" to anything people don't like, to make it sound more pervasive. Some men commit rape. Most don't. If the number of MPs who do is increasing then that's a serious problem and we'd want to know why. But is it? Nothing here tells us anything about that.

There is a strong link between excessive drinking and drug use and sexual assault, so that might have a lot to do with it.

Sure, but is the amount of escessive drinking and drug use increasing? Who knows.

Yes, exactly. A sexual assault happening does not mean they are getting worse overall. You need some kind of real information to work with. That's not to say people's feelings are wrong, people are often quite tuned into a change in workplace culture. But it's sometimes difficult to get to the big picture about what's really happening from that.

I believe there is information about an increase in drug use and drinking in the general public, so maybe it is following larger social trends? But difficult to say.
