So the RCN are now that entrenched, they are hosting "Drag Storytime".... for ages 0-7.

"As part of LGBTQ+ Pride Month, @RCNLibraries are hosting a Drag Storytime event for children aged 0-7 years. The event by @ClipTheatre promises a sensory story time packed with music, interactivity, silly props and camp fun."

Drag queens for 0 - 7 year olds. Sad that there's no other group available for the RCN to find to read to children. Sad

For fucks bloody sake. I’m so bored of this fascination for getting men dressed as a parody of women to read to kids

Mandodari · 18/05/2022 17:38

Why don't they go the whole hog and have the black & white minstrels read a few chapters. If they are busy, they could get someone to revive Peter Sellers character from The Party, complete with a rendition of Goodness Gracious Me.

abc5432 · 18/05/2022 18:50

The links don't work for me. Have they backtracked?

MrsOvertonsWindow · 18/05/2022 18:54

That's interesting abc5432. The twitter link that gcnurse didn't work so I googled and found their website where it was advertised?
Is it too much to hope that there are some grownups in the RCN??

I hope they have us a rethink. They are pretty captured though aren’t they?

MrsOvertonsWindow · 18/05/2022 21:44

Agree that they're very captured KittenKong but the fact that this has suddenly disappeared suggests that there's maybe been a bit of grown up thought about this? (trying to be optimistic).

It's even been removed from Eventbrite.

Or they hide it for a day or so then still run it anyway (like RIBA did earlier this year)

KittenKong · 18/05/2022 22:25

Bless their ikkle socks. Social Media bod forgot to scurge it from Facebook (and no the links to their site or eventbrite don’t work now). I wonder if RCN will comment at all?

Mandodari · 19/05/2022 00:38

It looks like it is still going ahead

I emailed RCN, our local pride is hosting DQST in our college library.

The good thing is you can keep your kid away unlike when they come into a school. My point was drag comes from a kink, fetish background. You can't escape that. So I'd expect them in front of kiddies as much as say adult cabaret entertainers like burlesque dancers.

As much as it's fun and I don't mind drag, it's not age appropriate for early years, more like teenage. Even Ru Paul's drag race is broadcast after 9pm. It just seems like another boundary transgressed without the critical thinking.

It's like a panto dame people say though.

KittenKong · 19/05/2022 08:00

Drag race is advertised all over the place though (all over the bbc website, adverts, billboards). If you see the queues lined up for the live events there are loads of mums and kids.

It must be due to have run it’s race by now…

I showed one of the young uns in the office a video of Devine (they were blarbing on about drag race and how amaaaaaazing it was). Also Leigh Bowery. I think there were a little scared…

Zeugma · 19/05/2022 08:30

Let me get this right - the RCN discover that people are (rightly) disturbed about this and start asking questions, so they quickly delete the tweets and listings, even the booking page, for the 'fun' event to try and cover their tracks.

But it very much IS going ahead anyway?

Could the RCN, a respected professional body (well, I guess it used to be) then explain why this marvellous, nothing-to-see-here funfest for the 0-7 age-range needs to be cloaked in secrecy? Who is it actually benefitting? Might there be some glimmer of awareness that they have - shock, horror - got this very wrong??

@KittenKong
A few weeks ago, BBC had two of them as contestants on an Saturday early evening family show. They were continually referred to as girls, were competing against two other men, meaning there were no female guests on the show.
Below is an image of their costumes on the show.

Celebrity??? I’ve heard of one of them.
