This was painful to read....

www.hana.co.uk/blog/inclusive-language-at-hana-the-journey-so-far/

They are so deep into this that in amongst the word salad they repeatedly contradict themselves and show their real thinking even when trying hard not to 'cisgender' 'terfism' URGH

It's hard to find them @MangyInseam . Maybe they are what women want and i just don't anyone who dies by weird chance

If you were confident in your choices you wouldn't need paragraphs of nonsense explaining why you cant use a word.

Who are you selling the pill to?

DodoPatrol · 11/05/2022 06:59

put him in a female sphere against his will

Ah. Well, your sex (like your height and eye colour) isn’t actually determined by willpower. Maybe that’s where they are going wrong.

StrongOutspokenOftenIrritating · 11/05/2022 07:00

No one wants the scented ones. They’re all bought by panicked men dispatched from the maternity ward to buy maternity pads. Instead the mother of their newborn child will receive a pack of Always scented for extra thrush, a pack of Tena lady pants with lacy bits and some liners which might see some use in a year once everything goes back to some semblance of normal.

This is because those items are prominently displayed so easy to grab while the much wanted plain maternity pads are ‘hidden’ on the bottom shelf in basic white packaging.

(This is my theory and I’m sticking to it).

BenCooperisaGod · 11/05/2022 07:35

Umm i feel a campaign coming on

Some people are female. Deal with it.

Beowulfa · 11/05/2022 07:42

I love how they have to explain that the product is "licenced for women of childbearing age" so it's all the fault of stupid old fashioned medical standards boards and their unkind stance on biological reality.

I'm genuinely alarmed at the generation that is being raised to hide behind stark truth with a comfort blankie of vague words and kindness. How are they going to cope when life, as it inevitably does, throws a shitstorm of harsh reality at you? Cancer, dementia, depression, unemployment, bereavement, general disappointment and unfairness- these can't be magicked away by pretending things aren't what they actually are. And how do people spoonfed word salads properly comprehend conveyancing when buying a property, or a job contract?

RoseLunarPink · 11/05/2022 08:05

I actually quite admire how they have tried to get their heads round this and explore why using words like “people” in regard to a women’s health issue isn’t ideal, and have actually grappled with who is their market. They haven’t just gone for kneejerk “inclusivity” without thinking about it. But their attempt to think about it has inevitably exposed how bullshit and inconsistent it all is but they can’t say that, so they got some mermaids and sw talking heads in to rubber stamp them as woke.

I don’t see what’s wrong with women and anyone else with female reproductive biology, or women plus an inclusive para explaining that some trans men and nb “folks” Hmm can also get pregnant and may need contraception.

GoodWeatherforDucks · 11/05/2022 08:08

@334bu

The only reason for this need to separate the word "woman" from anything to do with human female biology has nothing to do with including females who do not identify as women, but everything to do with not excluding males who, if the word "woman" means someone with female biology, can't say they too are exactly the same as other women.

Yes, call me late to the party, but this is absolutely it. I only realised this the other day. D’oh!

Certain men do not want the category of ‘woman’ to be understood as being a person with all those messy female biological bits, because they themselves will never have them.

Far easier (currently, but watch this dystopian space) to buy a lipstick than install a uterus.

RoseLunarPink · 11/05/2022 08:09

(I mean I do see what’s wrong with it, in that women should suffice, and would suffice if it wasn’t for a large number of people being brainwashed, because any trans-identifying person should by definition be aware of their biological sex. But as things are, I do think it’s sensible and inclusive to mention trans men and nb females. It also clears up any confusion people may have in thinking that TW I.e. males can get pregnant, as we’ve recently seen.)

ColinRobinsonsFart · 11/05/2022 08:24

Nothing about women have English as a second language or women who are unable to understand the terminology due to SEN for example…. But they don’t matter do they Hanna you fucking muppets!?

TopKnotch · 11/05/2022 09:28

"their attempt to think about it has inevitably exposed how bullshit and inconsistent it all is but they can’t say that, so they got some mermaids and sw talking heads in to rubber stamp them as woke."

@RoseLunarPink like so much of the woo, as soon as you start to unpick it, it just sounds less and less sensible

Yes, @Beowulfa what fuddy duddies these regulator types are

Alice Pelton, founder of The Lowdown, says: “ We don’t use womxn because we understand this to be associated with TERF’ism and potentially causes more harm to some than good!”

See, that's more of that outright lying, reversal of truth that the Fragile Kirrin was spouting yesterday.

As far as I am aware every GC woman I know, here, real life etc, finds "womxn" ludicrous.

timeFlyers · 12/05/2022 00:59

Well that was a giant pile of steaming dog poo.

They disapprovingly state the regulators "still use binary language"! Well yeah, so they should in that industry.

It was good though that they discussed trans contraception. Other than that.......

WarriorNewAgain · 12/05/2022 06:25

What the AF?

Does viagra go to such grovelling lengths to make sure 'everyone is included?'

PoisonCrystal · 12/05/2022 06:46

That rambling mess can be shortened to “please don’t cancel us”.

NecessaryScene · 12/05/2022 07:07

See, that's more of that outright lying, reversal of truth that the Fragile Kirrin was spouting yesterday.

Well, it's "associated with TERFism" by some of them, at least. The imaginary "TERFs" in their heads have a lot of characteristics we would struggle to recognise.

We're not really relevant here - it's a purity power struggle over there between the people who introduced "womxn" and those who want to beat them by claiming it's now "problematic".

WalkerWalking · 12/05/2022 07:15

I'm very gender critical, but I can't be so angry about individuals trying not to upset anyone. Still, they've tied themselves into a pretzel, because it's logically impossible not to upset anyone in this debate.

I absolutely see how some women are desperately unhappy with being women, and that language can cause them real distress. But these people have been done a huge disservice by whoever told them "don't worry, don't worry, you're not actually a woman! We have drugs and surgery for that! And we'll change the mindset, beliefs, and language of every existing person on the planet! Just just put your fingers in your ears and shout lalala very loudly for a minute while we sort it all out for you". The distress is real, these aren't just kids throwing their toys out of the pram. But this weird, frantic (ultimately pointless, because someone will still be offended by it) double think is not the answer.

I always feel better when I bring things that upset me to MN.

I love reading the thoughtful, considered, intelligent and funny replies as we discuss something we're not allowed to even mention irl.

@ChiefInspectorParker
Apparently, you did all that because of, wait for it, cis privilege. Yep, the fact that you never thought about our identity isn't because that's the way things have worked for millenia but because you have the privilege of enjoying
"the unearned benefits you receive when your gender identity matches your sex assigned at birth."
You couldn't make this crap up, yet somebody does and has turned it into a massive industry.

BlackForestCake · 12/05/2022 08:54

If the product is medically licenced for "women of childbearing age" then surely they are not licenced to have it distributed to anyone who is not a woman.

That's fine because anyone who needs these products is a woman, whether they accept it or not.

Totally agree.

If only being known as a transsexual woman, or a non binary woman would suffice. (I mean females). And all would be grounded in reality.

It's the grounding in unreality which causes so many problems to women and trans persons alike.

Hana don't mention the issue with AFAB is that as a term it's plainly incorrect. Sex is observed in the womb and sex has already been determined at conception.

TERF is used as a given. There are terfs and they are bad women (or womxn??), we must stay away from them. TERF is a slur and so many of Hana's customers will be GC - i.e. 'terf', perhaps without knowing it as so many are unaware of the debate.

They also don't acknowledge the many if not majority of women who find the term Cis offensive. Cis reframes women to qualify gender ideology, a niche and novel belief system that I'm not compelled to buy into any more than a religion.

I just wish these companies would demonstrate a spine rather than trying themselves in knots, I appreciate they at least realise that not calling women women is not acceptable to most. It's still knee deep in gender woo though.

miri1985 · 12/05/2022 09:51

I've just had an angry walk listening to an American podcast that has decided they can't take a neutral stand on Roe so dedicated an episode to abortion access. According to them and their guest its not a womans issue its a peoples issue because not everyone who gets pregnant is a woman, blah blah blah. So if abortion access etc isn't a womans issue, has misogyny been cured overnight? Female bodies are no longer policed just bodies, hurrah we did it no more sexism

IcakethereforeIam · 12/05/2022 09:58

@miri1985 I've had those walks, wound up miles from home thinking 'how the fuck did I get here?' It's like a metaphor for something.
