Legal challenge: Welsh government's RSE lessons

In the Mail. NSPCC and the Children's Commissioner for Wales seem to be siding with the Welsh government:

More than 5,000 parents go to war with Welsh government over plans to teach children as young as THREE about 'sexual attraction' and gender identity

"Kim Isherwood, 39, who chairs the campaign group Public Child Protection Wales, said: ‘It’s dangerous and it absolutely infuriates me. I’ve always fought for children’s rights, but they’re removing my right to protect.’
The mother-of-two from Port Talbot added: ‘This new curriculum is not like the stand-alone RSE lessons that pupils and parents are used to. The new mandatory element also means that every child, aged 3-16, must take part.
‘It cannot be avoided by anyone and there are no rights for parents to request information on what will be taught, at what age, or to ask that their child sit out.’
The guidance includes the notion that pupils explore ‘sexual attraction’ and not just the biology of having sex.
It says: ‘Learners can explore how relationships, sex, gender, romantic and sexual attraction and personal experiences may shape and inform a person’s identity and individuality ... [and] how and why attitudes have changed and are changing including towards gender and sexuality diversity.’"

"Last night, a spokeperson for the Welsh Government said groups including the NSPCC and the Welsh Children’s Commissioner’s Office supported the plans, adding: ‘It is completely untrue to suggest that we’re “sexualising” children.
'As part of the new curriculum, all pupils in Wales will have full access to high-quality Relationships and Sexuality Education designed to safeguard them and in time, support them to navigate the complex area of relationships and sexuality.’"

Good for those parents. I wonder if they have a crowdfunder.

AnnieLou12 · 24/04/2022 22:37

So, if it’s true that parents can’t ask what will be taught and at what age, people are just expected to trust that everything will be fine? Not sure I’d blindly trust the NSPCC or any government that much. Why are they so keen not to disclose any details?

Yes they do it’s on a site called Fundrazr. But if you Google public child protection Wales you should it.

Oceangirl20 · 25/04/2022 10:32

Hats off to those parents...Do they have a website or someway to know more about their claim.

really? Does anyone have any links to further info on this, at all?

Mark Drakeford looks more and more like Joe Biden every day. He's lost touch with his natural voters and is firmly under the influence of people like Lu Thomas and Jon Luxton.

DomesticatedZombie · 25/04/2022 16:29

I've had a look at the 'public child protection' website and can't see any links to the original source materials/references.

All of this needs to be laid out more clearly, with references to evidence.

This is the press release

But at the moment it looks like it's at the early stages as you wouldn't crowdfund more unless you were going to the next stage

The same NSPCC who state that a trans identified child should use the changing rooms of their choice? They have two versions floating around. The CPSU (still NSPCC) one is linked on a schools network in my area. I have written to the network to ask them to delete the link as it misrepresents the Equality Act but not heard anything yet.

You can see how schools get in a mess if they just Google key words see the NSPCC and believe that the NSPCC will give the right advice.

5000 parents! that's a lot of parents. You'd think the Welsh Government would just back down on this, it clearly isn't a very popular plan.

CelebratingMyOwnSelf · 25/04/2022 23:33

They are also on YouTube and fully referenced all of their findings.
The funny thing is drakeford and co state they are a campaign of misinformation but they use Welsh government documents, every bit of research is factual.
Most parents in Wales still don't realise that from September they won't have any say, little Jimmy will not be coming home woth a slip for his mum to sign.
If agents have anything to say about it they will be breaking the law and breaching their children's sexual rights.
