Askham Grange Prison Protest

Good morning!

This Saturday (23/4) Northern Radfem Network will be protesting Askham Grange women's prison in York. It's the latest in a series of nationwide protests against trans identified men lying their way into the female estate.

I'll be speaking as an ex inmate and dropping some unexpected truth bombs about the prison's dodgy history.

Come join us, bring signs and posters and make some noise!

Meet outside the main gate at 11.45 ready to begin at midday. There's a pub nearby for debriefing and beer. Really hope to see you there!

Women only, obviously.

I’m too far away, OP, but I just want to send best wishes and I hope you get a good turn out. I think public opinion is in your favour, particularly after the publicity re “Karen” White.

Good luck

Helleofabore · 21/04/2022 12:01

Good luck!!!

If you're unable to make it, there's a press release going out and the transcripts, videos and write ups will be on the Northern Radfem Network website.

I can't be there but support your cause. As a magistrate I have asked the Magistrates Association, who are an independent organisation, to hold the government to account on the shambles that is currently happening in womens prisons...but they declined to get involved-reprehensible...we won't forget those in positions of authority who remained quiet, when asked to speak up in defence of women. One day, womens prisons will be single sex again.

Rightsraptor · 21/04/2022 14:04

I'll be there.

DomesticatedZombie · 21/04/2022 14:13

Good luck to you, and thanks, OP!

baddaytoquitsmoking · 21/04/2022 14:48

They just straight up declined? What were their reasons? That's so frustrating, we need hands on deck, not even more enablers

I am too far away as well, but 100% support your cause. Male-bodied offenders have no place in womens prisons.

I'll be really interested to read the press release.

Bumping!

Helleofabore · 21/04/2022 19:35

OP. Is there anything else we can do apart from keep writing to MPs and sharing the press releases.

baddaytoquitsmoking · 21/04/2022 19:53

Yes! Find the prisons in your area and apply to join the independent monitoring boards.

Talk talk talk about it all the time and eventually you'll come across ex inmates that are happy to discuss their experiences, this is invaluable.

Look out for, or even organise protests at prisons within travelling distance. We started out with very few and quickly gained enough traction that very soon we were protesting the ministry of justice.

Write to governors and prison officials. Release and Inside Times are good sources of contacts.

All my speeches and write ups are here www.northernradfemnetwork.org/
There are talking points in there and I work with Belstaffie who, as well as being a good friend, has 20 years experience as a prison officer and sex offender specialist. Her talks are heartfelt, harrowing and a goldmine of information.

We're going to continue making a massive noise about this (this protest is the 7th since January) so keep a look out for what we're doing. Numbers on the ground are so important, if we had half thr presence there as we do online we'd have won this already.

Public opinion is on our side, and prison staff are invariably in agreement when we demonstrate. We're in this to protect women and expose the roots of what happened and who is responsible.
