PS22/3: Diversity and inclusion on company boards and executive management (fca.org.uk)

The results are in and if I have read correctly the FCA has decided to let individual companies decide whether to use sex or gender identity as the basis of their definition of "women".

One of the FCA’s executive directors is the chair of trustees of Stonewall so this is not surprising.

As a separate point, the FCA could not be more hypocritical when it comes to D and I. It does not practise what it loves to preach.

Well when they've faddled about working out if the gender balance is all hunky dory and they have enough frost gendered demiboy queer pan femme furries, they will still need to work out the basis of sex too.

See Equality Act. See sharp end of Ben Cooper. See a fuckton of women saying ffs.

Extract from Telegraph business page:

'The City regulator has been forced to leave trans women out of new female diversity targets after backlash from industry chiefs.
The Financial Conduct Authority said it will scrap plans to require listed companies to include those who self-identify as women when counting female employees.
The decision comes after hundreds of City firms said they disagreed that targets should be based on gender identity rather than sex.
Out of 439 responses to the consultation, all but one respondent said they did not want trans women to be included in the targets and data disclosures regarding female representation.
The companies said that such an approach would not be consistent with equalities legislation, would fail to recognise the under-representation of women based on sex and the structural discrimination they may face and could allow men to “game” the targets system.
Instead, some companies wanted trans individuals to be separately identified because of their different life experiences.
The move came as the watchdog set out new requirements for UK-listed companies to ensure that 40pc of its board of directors are women and at least one senior board member - chairman, chief executive, finance chief or senior independent director – is female.'

It is actually more positive than my initial scan. The push is onto companies to decide how to define but pointing out the difficulties in collecting/comparing data on gender identity. Will be interesting to see how companies approach this.

Not the response the FCA, or many of Those Who Monitor, would have us believe. How many times do we hear that "out there in the real world" people disgree with us Nasty GC Bitches?

And look, such common sense reasoning and a bloody good suggestion for meaningful I+D too.

Oh those nasty sensible people!

Exactly. So nice to see that it was all but one company to see through the batshit and not go against actual equality legislation to appease the feelings of a few men.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 20/04/2022 17:08

As one of the 438 dissenters I am pleased they got the response they did. It’s a bit of a fudge but the original proposals would have been a real step in the wrong direction.

Just repeating and enjoying this little outbreak of common sense by an allegedly Stonewall captured industry.
Now for them to ditch pronouns Grin

Manderleyagain · 20/04/2022 17:49

From sex matters statement on it, aswell as choosing whether to go with gi or sex, the companies will have to be clear about which they are using and be consistent. Presumably they could collect both if they wanted. That would be the most useful.
It's a big improvement on the original proposal which was 3 categories: self id men, self id women, & non binary - making it impossible to monitor sex at all.

Manderleyagain · 20/04/2022 18:30

There was a thread on this consultation st the time. I have just tried to find it. Does anyone know how to find advanced search? It's gone for me!

Original thread www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4309898-FCA-Diversity-consultation

The FCA were spinning this on linked in earlier. They have since changed their message.

I wonder if the ruling on the Scottish gender representation Bill that ruled that trans women are not a protected characteristic and CANNOT be included under the sex category of women🤔

WalrusSubmarine · 21/04/2022 00:21

1 in 439?! That’s a no then! That’s quite a strong no!!!
