Fair Cop has Tweeted that the charges against Jennifer Swayne have been dropped.

Congratulations to her. Now, will they prosecute the little Cardiff toe-rag who stirred this all up and went on sticking violent anti-women stickers up with apparent impunity?

They say (threaten) they'll investigate any further reports in the same manner. So have Qwent Police taken action against the individual(s) who are responsible for the stickers and graffiti containing actual threats/violent images against women

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 12/04/2022 19:43

this is great news

and was bloody inevitable. it was total fucking overreach by the police

confiscating BOOKS

viques · 12/04/2022 19:50

Another hopeful ripple of tide turning? So pleased for Jennifer, full vindication.

ItWasGoodWhileItLastedRVN123 · 12/04/2022 20:40

Good news in a world where I think the tide is turning, even though Mumsnet is slow in catching up and banning people for talking about real facts.

DoubleYouOhEmAyEn · 12/04/2022 20:56

She should sue for wrongful arrest.

The fucking thought police.

ChopinBoard · 12/04/2022 21:01

The process is the punishment, so in that sense, the police and TRAs have achieved their aim. I'm glad for Jenny that her ordeal is overb though. That said, I'm not impressed that the police have broadcast that they haven't learned a god damn thing. Who tf do they think they are? What's that thing about policing by consent?

Voice0fReason · 12/04/2022 21:47

It's criminal and absolutely ridiculous that she was arrested in the first place.

endofthelinefinally · 12/04/2022 21:53

Teenagers being assaulted and killed, girls being raped, police do absolutely nothing and if they do something they inevitably screw it up. Woman puts up a few stickers and the full weight of the police force is brought down upon her. What a state this country is in.

It's good that charges have been dropped BUT Gwent Police are still doubling down. There's a very definite threat to Jen in their statement that has been picked up by the various Welsh women's groups who've been supporting her. They've sent Gwent Police an open letter:

"It has come as no surprise to us that there is insufficient evidence to charge her with this offence – it is our view that her arrest was a disproportionate and excessive use of police powers, which was further exacerbated by her being kept in a cell, her phone seized, and her house searched. We are glad that the CPS, at least, appears to agree with us on this.
It is therefore shocking to read the comment of an Inspector in his notification of no charges to Jen’s solicitor: “May I stress to Miss Swayne that whilst on this occasion, the CPS have decided on no further action, the police will respond and deal with any future reports in a similar way and will where necessary seek future CPS advice for any future occurrences”. This would suggest that Gwent Police officers have learnt nothing from this disgraceful episode.
This is a particularly heinous comment considering that police are yet to make any arrests for the stickers placed by individuals, which contain pictures of guns warning women to “shut the fuck up”. Perhaps Gwent Police consider women speaking up for their rights to be more dangerous than violent threats to silence women."

The South Wales Argus has had to post a clarification.

Charges against Jennifer Swayne (sticker woman) dropped
IcakethereforeIam · 13/08/2022 21:17

Here (hopefully) is the article in the south Wales Argus. The clarification is at the bottom. The headline is unchanged. I rolled my eyes so much reading it I'm still dizzy. Two standouts, the trigger warning for transpips at the start, Welsh Stonewall not being arsed enough about it to speak to the papers. Lively discussion at the end, bit of a slow start.

If you read this Jenni, more power to you and, I want to say, WayneGrin. Diolch.

Better late than never, I suppose. All the best to Jenni.

MeaninglessGraphs · 13/08/2022 23:50

How much police time, police resources, police focus, went into the placing of small stickers about women's rights??

VERSUS

All other criminality in current society??

For example, crimes against women and children?

Sorry, better late than never as SW Police and Argus would say

Chersfrozenface · 06/09/2022 18:48

So, Gwent Police...

Two senior officers have been sacked and another would have been if he hadn't already retired. Reason? Gross misconduct. Some details of the misconduct are in the story in the Argus, linked to below.

I wonder what the sex of the victim or victims was.

Misogyny in the force? Surely not.
