Just on holiday in Australia and while breakfasting in a cafe this morning, I picked up one of the newspapers to browse. Thought these letters to the editor might resonate with you all.

Simple sanity. Thanks for posting, TheoSawUs. The more people speak out against that small but massively funded lobby group, the more politicians will regain the courage to stand up to it.

Somanysocks · 10/04/2022 04:24

Nice piece of writing, good to read sense and people losing the fear now.

TheCurrywurstPrion · 10/04/2022 04:24

That’s very cheering. Not just us then! Sunlight shining everywhere. What paper was it, OP? (No worries if you didn’t notice).

TheSandgroper · 10/04/2022 05:32

This is the reason why they wrote in.

In answer to the question above, I am pretty sure the newspaper I was reading was the Weekend Australian. (The weekday version being The Australian.)

Woman is a "very contested space"? This would be funny it it wasn't so serious.

Great letter from Judith. Whenever I see "adult human female" I always wonder whether PP can be credited. Did it start with her billboard or wth Magdalen Bern's?

Love the last letter, if something has a johnson they're a Boris not a Doris. Grin

EdithStourton · 10/04/2022 07:30

Hats off to the newspaper for publishing them, too.

FOJN · 10/04/2022 07:36

Someone not something.

TheSandgroper · 10/04/2022 08:02

@TheoSawUs. Yes, that would be right.

Senate questions on Thursday with THAT answer. Newspaper report on Friday (my screenshot from The Australian ), letters to the editor on Saturday (The Weekend Australian).

Sorry can’t post the link but the questioning of Prof Murphy might be available on YouTube (my very GC DS showed me a clip - so it might also be twitter?)

DifficultBloodyWoman · 10/04/2022 08:50

Thanks for posting. The headline popped up on my news feed but I couldn’t bypass the paywall.

It is reassuring to see they is some push back.

In fact, I’m delighted to hear it is still a contested space because I thought this country had been well and truly captured!

Violetparis · 10/04/2022 08:58

The sentence in the first letter that women 'are not an idea in a man's head' is great.

I’ve also noticed the “please could you define what a woman is” in question which is good news.

In Australia in general there hasn’t been the push for trans rights as much as the U.K./USA etc. In fact there has been quite a lot of mocking on the radio regarding trans men in Women’s sport. Australians in general are pretty straightforward and although there has been some capture amongst the Melbourne lefties, in general, either people haven’t heard of it, or are basically appalled.
Plus there hasn’t been the capture in schools which really helps I think.
There just isn’t the “Islington left wing media class” in big enough numbers here to push this agenda.

Ozgirl75 · 10/04/2022 09:08

Although we have had a Liberal (basically conservative) govt here for the past 5 years or so. We’re due an election soon and Labour are poised to come in so I hope they don’t have any stupid ideas about what is and isn’t a woman. Their leader seems fairly sensible so fingers crossed.

borntobequiet · 10/04/2022 09:09

The letter from Judith Hunter is a gem. Actually they all are.

And yet, we do essentially have self ID in Australia.

All that is needed is a letter from a medical practitioner. No requirement for ongoing treatment or an ongoing relationship with a medical practitioner.

Surgery or hormone therapy is only required in QLD and NSW.

As you said, I do think there is a disconnect between politician and those of us living in the rest of Australia.

Humbold · 10/04/2022 09:29

I would love for people to start asking what a man is. I think this would cause some interesting and uncomfortable blustering and put many on the backfoot.

TheSandgroper · 10/04/2022 09:55

Western Australia needs one to have completed a procedure.

Further in Western Australia.

DifficultBloodyWoman · 10/04/2022 10:30

Yes. Their definition of a procedure is very loose though.

What is a ‘reassignment procedure’?

The High Court of Australia has previously said that a person does not need to surgically change all of their gender characteristics to be recognised as having had a ‘reassignment procedure’. However, they must have altered their gender characteristics sufficiently through either a medical or surgical procedure so that they can be socially identified as their preferred gender. It is important to get legal advice, as what is legally considered a ‘reassignment procedure’ is complex and may be decided by the exact circumstances of your situation.

If someone chops off or otherwise loses his johnson he's still a boris not a doris

ElaineMarieBenes · 10/04/2022 21:00

@OldCrone - thank you and yes that’s the clip he showed me!
