MTF and FTM transition

I keep seeing this argument about the appropriation of language, such as taking the word woman so we have to use female, but I am just wondering how many people have noticed that the words male and female in terms of gender identity rather then sex, are already being used by transgenderists in the form of Male to Female transition and Female to Male transition (MTF AND FTM), it seems to have passed under many peoples radars from what I can see, due it being reduced to abbreviations.

I was told (here, actually, by some who disagree with what is written here, but also elsewhere) that MTF and FTM are no longer the correct terminology, anyway.

The new terminology appears to be transfeminine and transmasculine, to suggest that the person always felt either feminine or masculine. As 'feminine' can mean passive, submissive, emotional, and nurturing, we are bringing sexist stereotypes into social justice language.

But never mind. You are correct, VelvetChairGirl. I have been told (here, but also elsewhere, and in both cases by trans activists) that 'female' and 'male' do not now refer to biological sex, either.

So there are now no words for biological sex. In theory. In reality male people are called men and boys but the names for female people are bleeders or egg-producers or vulva people or similar insulting slurs.

Probably. For some time I have noticed that the acceptable terminology in this field keeps changing all the time, and you are told off for using last week's vocabulary. Or maybe it is that different sections of the activist movement use different terms? Not sure, but I have been 'gently' corrected many times, and then I realised that the goal just might be to keep me always worried about saying the wrong thing.

But these changes also meant that it was hard to know what terms now meant.

BootsAndRoots · 09/04/2022 17:26

MtF and FtM are old scientific terms. I once got called a bigot for using them as someone decided for a particular week that they're outdated terms. The terms have probably existed longer than the concept of gender identity.

The terms make it very clear what is going on, and easy for everyone to understand. There is confusion over what a transman and transwoman is (seen it here recently).

But the deliberate evolution of language is on purpose, I've read many articles that woke language is used by the privileged elite to discriminate against everyone else. It's very similar to football fans buying the latest shirt and looking down on fans with last season's shirt.

I'm telling you that the word 'kitten' now means 'local police force'. Are you going to believe me and wait for your kitten to arrest you or assume I'm being silly and reality says otherwise?

Anyone can say anything. It's not incumbent on anyone else to believe or obey them.

VelvetChairGirl · 09/04/2022 18:54

maybe we should make our own words up and laugh at them for not understanding our pretentious gobbledygook too.

Isn’t this exactly the sort of nonsense that immature teenagers engage in? Inventing their own cool slang, that the adults can’t keep up with? Combined with attempts to hijack language and destroy meaning. Not a good look, TRAs.

They keep making it up as they go along.
I really can't be arsed to try and keep up with it anymore.
We all know what sex they are.
