Apropos nothing in particular, I’m just reading Glinner’s book adaptation of his stage version of The Lady Killers. Very funny, as you would expect.

I commend it to anyone wanting some humorous Easter reading material.

For the uninitiated Glinner is Graham Linehan in the real world.

I'll have a look at it, cheers OP, need some new reading material and fancied something funny.

ScreamingMeMe · 07/04/2022 18:39

Oh brill, thanks OP.

We have been re watching Father Ted... just because we have covid and need a laugh.
DH and I try and pre empt what the characters are about to say

Feck off cup!

RoyalCorgi · 07/04/2022 18:59

I have a copy of the scripts of Father Ted (bought from Amazon) and they're hilarious. I might give The Ladykillers a go - I could do with some light reading material.

Sortilege · 07/04/2022 19:04

You can never go wrong with Father Ted!

Script book is a good call.

On my wanders one day I went past a theatre advertising that show. How does it difffer from the magnificent British film not the disgusting hollywood version ?

AryaStarkWolf · 08/04/2022 10:05

I'm actually really upset about Ted the Musical being cancelled, i was really looking forward to it, Fr Ted is my all time favourite show :(

lockhillie · 08/04/2022 10:09

He's a wonderful man and probably the greatest comedy writer of our generation, The Mess We're In is the highlight of my week and much funnier than anything on televison nowdays.

I felt really bad for him in that Nolan interview, he got really choked up talking about what he's lost during this fight :(
Abhannmor · 08/04/2022 10:20

Fr Ted. Black Books . The IT Crowd. Count Arthur Strong. Nobody else in comedy has a CV like that.He has a cameo in a Ted episode - is it Flight Into Terror ?

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 08/04/2022 10:42

He has a cameo in black books as well, buying chips off Bernard in a dodgy takeaway.

partystress · 08/04/2022 11:19

Wasn’t he also involved in some way with Motherland?

He’s a hero.

Will buy the book. Thanks for highlighting it OP.

Yes, he wrote and directed the first series.
PatsArrow · 08/04/2022 11:23

He wrote the pilot and much of first series with his wife Helen, Sharon Horgan and someone else I can't recall right now.

I can't temper where I heard him say, but he stood back from Motherland during series 1 as he and Helen were separating etc.

PatsArrow · 08/04/2022 11:24

Temper? I meant remember.

I didn't know he'd directed too. Very talented man.

Sortilege · 08/04/2022 13:12

It’s closer to the marvellous Ealing comedy than to the clips I saw of the Tom Hanks travesty. I’m still only part way through, so can’t comment on the second half.

It’s not a new publication, just that I was annoyed about the Father Ted stage show and looking for things he had done that I didn’t already own.

I’ve been quite keen to put my ££s where my mouth is and support any works by anyone being persecuted for speaking truth to power.

Comedy hasn’t figured in that deliberate buying spree much.

It’s fitting though, because I do feel that while we’re waiting for the adults to regain control, comedy will save our collective sanity.

I saved Count Arthur Strong during lockdown in an “in an emergency break glass” kind of way for the absolute nadir of our collective mood. It did work.

And a cameo in the Alan Partridge series set in the motel as an Irish tv director/producer who Alan meets with an naturally insults...

He was once asked to direct Steve Martin in something and of course accepted immediately. About 30 mins later he got a phone call saying there had been a mistake . 😑 This was when the penny dropped ; he realised he had been cancelled. @Sortilege I love Count Arthur Strong! I know he is Marmite but he cracks me up. Ps I don't mind Coogan doing dat Oirish ting cos he is one of us really.

I remember being worried when they transferred it from radio to telly because it was all so clear in my head and I didn’t want it ruined. I don’t think I even realised then it was the same writer as Father Ted. It was even better though, if anything. It’s my favourite box set.
