The Times has closed debate on this now, saying real names are required for comments.

Those of us who work for Stonewalled organisations are being silenced.
Although I've never got a comment past their moderators anyway.

No, comments are still being accepted. Where did you get this information? Are you a subscriber, as if you are they have all your details anyway. Maybe just non subs on shared articles?

Thank you Milady, here's the link and a screen shot, I am a subscriber - It says "Real-name Commenting
We've changed our policy and from now on commenters will need to use their real names. If you've been using a pseudonym, please edit your screen name here. We believe this will ensure true debate."

I'm a subscriber and it says nothing of the sort. Did someone send you that screenshot OP because it seems likely it's doctored?

This is the 2nd thread about this started, perhaps designed to make people fear commenting.

The attached picture is what shows at the top of comments.

If you go into the FAQ guidelines it says the following

Why don’t you make commenters use their real names?
We have had feedback that making readers use their real names would make commenting difficult for those who work in the medical profession or in social care, or who simply want to keep their commenting behaviour separate from their work life. This is why we’ve decided to keep the option of anonymous usernames. However, readers will soon also be given a unique user ID to prevent commenters from having the same username.

No that was my screenshot, just cut the edges to hide my work apps, starting work now.

Have just refreshed and normal comments are back - I got to that page from the main Times site, maybe they changed their mind?

I may have offended someone there yesterday by trying to comment that as Jamie Wallis profiteered from prostitution and and prostitution is rape, so....

I've had the same message.

Also disappeared after a refresh.

I think this is for new Times readers? I've had it pop up if I follow a link on here but as soon as I go to my own saved bookmark, it disappears and I can post as a subscriber.
