Thank you for sharing. I’m sad about the end of British women’s cycling. They were magnificent.

WelcomeMarch · 30/03/2022 11:00

That’s an awkward question as I’m quite happy for (unmedicated) female to male transgender athletes to compete against other born female athletes.

Wish they’d take care with their terminology.

Spottybluepyjamas · 30/03/2022 11:02

Thanks for sharing. This whole thing is utterly ridiculous. The end of women's sports is terribly sad and disappointing.

Sicario · 30/03/2022 11:04

98% of respondents say NO - males should not be competing in women's sports.

It's a no brainer.

True. I’m happy for all females to compete together regardless of “gender identity” as long as everyone abides by the rules on doping.

Saving a screenshot of the current position... (it's not unheard of for the poll to change... )

ChateauMargaux · 30/03/2022 11:59

Also true... I would be very happy for unmedicated transmen to compete in the female competition.

AlisonDonut · 30/03/2022 12:00

Gah the terminology! FFS get it right, you are journalists!

ChateauMargaux · 30/03/2022 12:01

If a 21-year-old novice can beat the greatest female track cyclist that GB has ever produced, sport has a problem.

Even if Bridges doesn't win.. there is a female cyclist who has missed out on training, funding, support and a place in the race.

PragmaticWench · 30/03/2022 12:07

It's a shame the article didn't mention that people who have been through male puberty have also generally developed greater lung capacity and heart size. Makes a huge difference in an aerobic sport and reducing testosterone will make no difference to that advantage.

If, on the other hand, the poll does suddenly go into an unaccountable 180 degree turn, it's good to have evidence. You'd have thought nearly 7,500 respondents was a good enough sample size - a thousand timed bigger than the poll trotted out ad nauseam in support of trans' increased risk of suicidality..
BruceAndNosh · 30/03/2022 12:16

Where's that meme about a motorcyclist identifying as a cyclist?

Jackiebrambles · 30/03/2022 12:31

Thanks for sharing I don't normally frequent the sports section. The comments are overwhelmingly disgusted with the unfairness. Will British cycling listen or do anything??

ChateauMargaux · 30/03/2022 13:15

Comments only visible to subscribers.. good to know that they are overwhelmingly in support of female athletes.

StellaAndCrow · 30/03/2022 13:24

From the article: "Therefore, either Bridges is made ineligible for competition — which penalises transgender athletes — or Bridges remains eligible and the women against whom she competes are penalised."

Not true. Bridges doesn't have to be made ineligible for competition - Bridges could still compete in the male category.

Bridges has specifically said that they wanted to wear dresses and make up. This should not mean they can't compete with the other men. How about men being more accepting of gender non-conforming men?

Actually I suspect many men are already accepting of this, so why does Bridges want to compete with the women?

Truthlikeness · 30/03/2022 13:36

"What we do not know is the effect that 12 months of testosterone suppressant has had on Bridges’s performance"

Well, what we do know is that Bridges is till winning men's races - including a gold medal at the recent University Championships in Nottingham, so 'not a whole lot', seems to be the inescapable answer.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 30/03/2022 13:52

The pole shows the same as every AIBU pole on gender nonsense.
98% think it's all batshit.

Same in public poles. Yet those running the country are still pushing forward with it.

Jessica747 · 30/03/2022 13:59

It's one cyclist, so many people are making absolute mountains out of molehills and claiming it to be the death of womens sport, there's o n e

Masdintle · 30/03/2022 14:01

But one male cyclist affects every single woman in the competition. This is not difficult to understand.

SunniDelite · 30/03/2022 14:10

Anyone else remember this? You must link arms with the enormous laydee who beat you, or you're a bad sport....

Are you really that naive?

Not a big deal eh. Who gives a shit about the places and medals that get taken from the women who's sport has been 'inclusive' to a male with all the physical advantages that male has just because they would get hurt feelings if they were told no.

How is that fair sport for females?

Why do you think male feelings should be prioritised over female reality? That's male supremacy.

It isn't just one. It's just the beginning.

Interestingly that's what they said about the power lifter Hubbard. It's just one, stop panicking and being hysterical silly women. But in less than a year, we now have a swimmer Liar Thomas in the states taking opportunities from women, and now a cyclist in good old Blighty. You mark my words it will be athletics next. You may not give a shot about fair opportunities for women but I do.
Jackiebrambles · 30/03/2022 14:37

Give a shit, obvs Grin

"What we do not know is the effect that 12 months of testosterone suppressant has had on Bridges’s performance"

I for one could not care less

A woman is not a man with low testosterone levels

Not even a Labour MP would come up with anything as absurd as that

GonadTheGaul · 30/03/2022 18:39

"What we do not know is the effect that 12 months of testosterone suppressant has had on Bridges’s performance"

Although we do know that Bridges won the men's Points Race, came 3rd in the men's Team Pursuit and 4th in the men's Individual Pursuit at this event last month www.bucs.org.uk/events-page/cycling-track-championships-2021-22.html?tab=Results+and+Programme

That probably tells us something about the effect of 12 months testosterone suppression.
